Here comes the sun

The sun in shining down on us in Britain, but the sunshine has faded in Chile as winter has come and storms are upon them. In this newsletter we hear about how house projects are surviving the storms, and how many of our ministries have had much to celebrate in these recent months.

A letter from the Director

I give thanks for the wonderful people with whom I work on the management team of Chile for Christ and I was reminded of 1 Corinthians 12 where Paul reminds us that each part of the body has its own function and together the parts make a whole body. I feel that the management team reflects this but I am aware that we need more parts to build a stronger body. We now have a statement of the volunteers that we are seeking and I hope that you will soon see this statement in various publications. Please look out for this and if you feel that you can offer help we would love to hear from you.

We receive requests from our brothers and sisters in Chile for help with different projects or for funds to help with difficult problems. At present our regular income is almost completely used in regular gifts supporting certain projects and churches in Chile. This leaves us we very little flexibility to help in the case of these extra situations. We recently heard about a great need and had nothing available to offer.  However God is good and people are very generous. We have recently received a significant donation when one of our supporters sold a house and we have been provided with a legacy as a result of the death of another of our supporters. You will no doubt read as to how these gifts have been used.

And finally I give thanks to all of you who support Chile for Christ. Your prayers and financial gifts help us to show God’s love to those in need in Chile. Please spread the news of the work of Chile for Christ as you spread the news of the Gospel.

May God bless you all richly.

House Project & Bible Institute

We have been hearing about Gerd and Rosi's house project consistently for the last couple of newsletters and we continue to hear good news from them. Recently the cladding was put up and has kept them dry through a few storms. Thanks to some very generous donations (see later) we have been able to help with the outstanding costs for this project.

This is an extract from Gerd and Rosie's newsletter:

"Our Bible Institute is up and running. The evening classes have been well attended with 20-30 people. Our institute is functioning in Brazil and Argentina as well. Currently we are reaching and teaching 100 people on a weekly basis. We have also been able to host 3 pastors' retreats in the last few months. The inscription of our School into YWAM's university is submitted and under review. We are heading to 6-months long Christ-centred leadership training. The first step is our 3-months long School. We currently have 16 people interested in the school. Our new initiative is our "Timothy Project" for the graduates of the School. It is a further theological equipping in the 12 modules of our Bible Institute. Participants are biblically trained, how to teach in the context of the local church. We are aiming to multiply the Institute into other countries of South America."

And just a few days ago we received this:

"Wonderful news to celebrate together with us: On the 30th of May our 'School for Transformational Leadership' got officially inscribed into YWAM´s University of the Nations. Our school lives in the faculty of counselling and is open for all who have successfully completed a DTS and have some years of ministry and leadership experience under their belt. What does that mean? We can promote our school now through the global training catalogue of YWAM. We can also multiply this school into other parts of the world through the network of YWAM. We hope to offer future schools in Spanish and English. That would make it accessible to a wider audience. For that we would need a bilingual team. We rejoice in the door that God has opened for us to share the gospel as we train young leaders in the ways of our Lord Jesus Christ and the cross."
Work in Osorno
We continue to hear about the great work that Miguel Perez and his team are doing at the church in Osorno. We recently heard about a couple of his projects and events including; a Marriage Conference, Mothers Day Celebrations, a Women's Conference, a Business Conference and a 60-years celebration of pastors in Osorno.

Thank You!
We are thrilled to have received two very generous donations in the last few weeks, which have come just as we were praying for more resources to meet current needs in Chile. One of them was from a long term supporter who sold a house and gave a gift to Chile for Christ from the proceeds. The other was a legacy when one of our longest-standing supporters left us a bequest in her will. We are so grateful for these gifts and pray that the Lord will help us to use them wisely in support of His work.

Do you use the PrayerMate app? We now have our own feed which you can subscribe to in order to get the latest prayer requests from Chile for Christ. Find out more here.

If you have a smartphone but don’t yet use PrayerMate, do give it a try. It’s a great way to make sure you pray for all those things you would like to pray for without being overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task!

  • Pray for the health Ann, wife of our former director Arnold.
  • Give thanks for the many projects being undertaken by the church in Osorno and pray for their continued work.
  • Praise God for the accreditation of Gerd and Rosi's School as part of YWAM University and pray for the provision of funds and team members as they look to grow their ministry.
  • Chile for Christ management team, as they look for new volunteers to join the team.
