From the District Superintendent

Rev. BrossOne of the things pastors and lay leaders experience stress about is the financial health of their church, but over the past few years I have noticed many of our churches do not utilize programs that The United Methodist Church has put forth to help the local church.

One such ministry is the Connectional Relations team of the General Council on Finance and Administration. The team sets up partnerships with organizations to receive discounts on things like paper, cleaning supplies and much more. Click here to see a  press release about their newest ministry partner, Ace Hardware. The great news is that GCFA does the hard and heavy work of vetting each partnership for ethics, business practices and reliability. I trust their work and encourage your church to utilize these cost-saving opportunities.

Intentional Discipleship Trainers Meet & Share Ideas

discipleship tfIn early March, NIC Intentional Discipleship Systems (IDS) trainers met safely to network and share ideas. IDS Trainer and Pastor Charles Straight (Dolton: Faith) shared this testimony:
"At Faith church, intentionally developing disciples also means incorporating our social principles that teach us to “improve the lives of those who suffer from debilitating conditions such as poverty, starvation, illiteracy, imprisonment, addictions, and disease”. We have a responsibility to innovate, sponsor and evaluate new forms of community that will encourage the development of the fullest potential in individuals in the place where we serve. That commitment to justice and to the community of Dolton has lead us to create a year-long project to make our church a center of community life and a public resource shared by and accessible to people in Dolton. We will create a more sustainable plan for Faith Church to engage with and serve our community, invite partners to use our space, and identify new sources of revenue consistent with our mission. We believe that every step towards the goal of loving community demonstrates our commitment to love God and makes us better disciples."

Intentional Discipleship Systems are valuable in carrying out our mission as members of The United Methodist Church. Visit to find out more about IDS and see a list of trainers available in each district who are standing by, ready to help.
