Migration and resilience in urban Canada-Immigration et résilience en milieu urbain
Hi Everyone,
I hope all of you are enjoying the warm spring weather that has finally arrived in Toronto. The very cold and wet month of April was punctuated by a marvelous partnership meeting in Kitchener-Waterloo where an evening panel of local service providers speaking about the new realities of newcomer trajectories, a lunchtime key note by Dr. Marie Percot addressing the resilience of Indian nurses abroad, and three panels illustrating research and community collaboration attracted diverse audiences. I want to thank the organizers, especially, Jenna Hennebry, Margaret Walton-Roberts, Carla Angolu-Pasel, Allison Petrozziello and the many students and volunteers who made the workshop a success. Watch for news about summaries and reports of the workshop proceedings.
Thank you for your help with the Contributions report. It will be posted on Dropbox and distributed at the next Steering Committee meeting. Thanks also to each researcher who sent an update. The updates help everyone stay in touch with the partnership’s research activities. We will be in touch with people who were busy in April. I want to remind everyone about the Call for Templates. The deadline is May 16, 2019. You can find the documents here . We look forward to receiving the next round of requests. Contact Chris Henders at .ca if you have questions or concerns. Read More .

The KW Partnership Meeting

Thank you to the team in Kitchener-Waterloo!

Partnership News-Nouvelles du partenariat

Steering Committee News
At its last meeting, the Steering Committee agreed on the terms for the April call for templates. Changes include a provision for additional graduate student support, agreement that the April call for templates includes small projects requesting no more than $25,000 and large projects that meet specific criteria, and a decision that the last call for templates will take place in the fall and include only small projects. See the information here. Minor clarifications and revisions to the Travel Policy were also approved and the revised policy is available in the dropbox here. Finally, the committee heard news about the partnership’s participation in the International Metropolis Meeting.

Executive Committee News
At a lengthy meeting, the Executive Committee recommended funding travel costs associated with several conferences. They include a panel at the International Metropolis Conference in Ottawa organized by Nancy Mandell and Luisa Veronis, partners’ participation in a panel on francophone immigrants at the International Metropolis Conference, a series of workshops at ACFAS organized by Virginie Messana and Luisa Veronis focusing on projects being undertaken by co-investigators in Ottawa-Gatineau, and student participation in the KW partnership meeting. The Committee especially appreciates the efforts of the organizers to control travel costs for the International Metropolis conference. Please note this minor change in procedures to facilitate a fair review of requests for travel funds. To be considered at Executive Committee regular meetings, requests for travel funds should be received by at least five business days before the meeting date. It takes time to compile and distribute documents as well as time for the committee to read them. Thank you for your assistance with this request. The date for the next Executive Committee meeting is posted on the website calendar.

Knowledge Mobilization News
The secretariat is redesigning the partnership website. The new website will have more features including more customized research projects pages to help research teams better communicate objectives and findings.

The KM officer is also supporting several research teams in writing and designing new research summaries and infographics. Stay tuned for the upcoming publication of an infographic on Marshia Akbar's city profile report. If you are interested in developing infographics for your research, kindly complete this template and send an email to the KM officer.

Finally, the secretariat has hired a translator to complete the translation of webpages, reports and summaries. Francophone partnership members were consulted and a consensus was reached on how to proceed with translations.

City Network News

The Windsor City Network is organizing two forums regarding immigration policies, which will be hosted in the Windsor-Essex region. Details and potential panelists for the forums are still under development. Tentatively, the first forum will be held in October 2019, and the second forum will be held in January 2020. Dr. Francine Schlosser has recruited Sahithya (Sahi) Veeraraghavan, an MBA Candidate from the University of Windsor, to coordinate the effort.
Data collection activities for the research project, “It Takes a Village: Building Resilience by Connecting International Students to the Broader Community”, is now complete.
