MAP Testing Reminder

During the weeks of January 13th - 24th your child will take a MAP Growth test from NWEA on a computer. We give students MAP Growth tests 3 times per year to measure academic growth throughout the school year.

MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn – whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

Here are some helpful reminders to prepare for testing:
  • Get a good night sleep so that your child is well rested.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast.
  • Remind your child to do their best on each test. The tests are untimed so they can go at their own pace.
  • Remind your child to be proud of their hard work this year and the growth they have already made.
Spread the word!
Spread the word! Invite your friends and family to come and learn more about Good Shepherd at an evening open house on January 9th or January 14th. Pizza dinner at 5:30pm followed by an information session at 6pm.
New year, same old lost & found!
The lost & found is full of snow pants, boots, mittens and uniforms! If your child is missing something, please stop by and check the lost & found. The lost & found is located in the hallway outside of the after school care room.
Classroom Highlights
2nd Grade
This week the second graders talked about what a New Year’s Resolution is and brainstormed some ideas that they could try to do in the New Year to better themselves. We talked about how these are supposed to be achievable goals. They came up with some really good ones!
Some resolutions of these kiddos are:
  • Starting my day out right and making my bed
  • To be a good example for others
  • To help my sister more
  • To make new friends
  • To always keep my promises
  • To do my chores when I am asked
  • Make my own breakfast
Phy Ed Class
The last day before Christmas break the Kindergarten through third grade students enjoyed a day of reindeer games. The fourth through sixth grade students had an indoor snowball fight. We now have moved on to scooter activities for the Kindergarten through third grade students. The second and third grade students will play scooter hockey. The fourth through sixth grade students have begun a floor hockey unit.
Thanks to all who donated shoes!
Good Shepherd 2nd grader, Emma Pikul, delivered them to Mokolodi Village over Christmas!
The Pikul family made it to Botswana with 5 large bags of donated shoes, thank you! There were a few obstacles along the way, but we overcame them. We almost lost the shoes to Botswana Customs when we arrived as they thought we were bringing them to resell. After much negotiation, they let us take them. The Mokolodi soccer team,“Mokolodi Swallows” were responsible for distribution of the 155 pairs of shoes to make sure it went smoothly. The shoes were presented to the village community the day before Christmas, much to their excitement. We thank you all so much for your support, mission success!

Good Shepherd families are invited to celebrate Catholic Schools Week at Park Tavern on January 28, 2020 for a night of bowling, dinner, or both. This is an addition to our monthly restaurant nights to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.

All 20 lanes will be open to Good Shepherd families with ALL proceeds going to Good Shepherd. There is a Sign Up Genius link below to reserve a lane for your family (4-5 people per lane). It will be $10.00 (per family) for an hour of bowling including the shoe rental.

There will be two sessions of bowling:

(1) The first group will bowl from 5:00 – 6:00 PM and,

(2) The second group will bowl from 6:30 – 7:30 PM.

While you are bowling you may purchase food or go to the restaurant after for a bite to eat. 10% of food and drink purchased will be given back to Good Shepherd.
