Fall Youth Sports registration opens Monday for soccer, 12U contact football and cheerleading

For Orange Beach parents who missed early sign-ups for youth soccer or 12U contact football this fall, you’ll have another opportunity beginning Monday, July 25th. Additionally, registration for cheerleading for children ages 9-12 will open on July 25th as well. 

Details on each sport is below and registration will be done online via ActiveNet


SOCCER 

Late registration for Fall 2022 Orange Beach youth soccer will be from July 25th to August 15th with an $80 fee. 

COED Soccer (must be minimum of 4 years old on August 1, 2022):
  • 5U (ages 4-5)
Girls Soccer (age control date August 1, 2022):
  • 7U (ages 6-7)
  • 9U (ages 8-9)
  • 11U (ages 10-11)
  • 14U (ages 12-14)
Boys Soccer (age control date August 1, 2022):
  • 7U (ages 6-7)
  • 9U (ages 8-9)
  • 11U (ages 10-11)
  • 14U (ages 12-14)

Find registration links on the City Website at https://www.orangebeachal.gov/departments/parks-recreation/youth-soccer. For soccer jersey sizes, try-ons are available at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Office.

Practices are scheduled to start on August 29th and will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., depending on the coach's availability. Dates and times are subject to change.

Games are scheduled to start on September 19th and will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, between 5:30 and 8 p.m. The season will end on October 28th. Dates and times are subject to change.

Volunteer coaches are always needed. Apply on the City Website at https://www.orangebeachal.gov/departments/parks-recreation/youth-sports-coach. A mandatory Coaches' Clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th at 6 p.m.


12U CONTACT FOOTBALL 

Late registration for Fall 2022 12U Orange Beach Contact Football will be open from July 25th to August 15th to all children ages 9-12 who reside in Orange Beach and those who attend Orange Beach Elementary School. (Please note that the roster for 10U Contact Football is full.)

The Orange Beach Football League will participate in the Baldwin County Youth Football League (BCYFL). Players learn fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a competitive recreation league.

CONTACT FOOTBALL - Ages 9-12 on August 1st, 2022 - $80 Registration Fee.

  • 12U (ages 11-12)

The city will provide players with helmets, shoulder pads, game pants, and game jerseys. Players will need practice pants, practice jersey, mouthpiece and footwear (rubber football cleats). For football jersey, pant and helmet sizes, try-ons are available at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Office.

Practices are scheduled to start on August 1st and will be held on Monday, Tuesday or Friday, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., depending on the coach's availability. Practices will take place at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Dates and times are subject to change. Registration will remain open even after practices start to ensure a good 12U roster size. 

Games are scheduled to start on September 17th and will be held on Saturdays, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Orange Beach Sportsplex and various parks/schools in Baldwin County. The season will end on November 5th. Dates and times are subject to change.

All registration entries will require a birth certificate and payment.

CHEERLEADING

Orange Beach Youth Cheerleading is open to all students, ages 9-12, who attend Orange Beach City Schools or are residents of Orange Beach.

Participants will cheer during the Fall 2022 youth football season from September through mid-November at the Orange Beach Sportsplex and surrounding parks within Baldwin County.

CHEERLEADING - Ages 9-12 on August 1st, 2022 - $100 Registration Fee. Registration will be open from July 25th to August 15th.

**Please note: Girls can still play soccer while participating in cheerleading.**

Orange Beach Youth Cheerleaders cheer for Orange Beach Youth Football teams. Most games take place on Saturdays and practices are usually held once or twice per week.

Practices are scheduled through the head coach. Participants will learn cheers and halftime routines. When available, cheer squads will cheer for team in their corresponding age groups. If needed, all ages can be combined to form cheer squads.

The City of Orange Beach will provide cheer shells, skirts, bloomers and pom-poms. Players will need to purchase water bottles, socks, shoes, and bows (color and designs will be decided during a parent meeting at the beginning of the season).

Mandatory uniform fitting/try-on night will take place on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Office.

Volunteer coaches (head coach or assistant coach) are always needed. Apply on the City Website at https://www.orangebeachal.gov/departments/parks-recreation/youth-sports-coach. A mandatory Coaches' Clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th.

City Council to meet July 26

The Orange Beach City Council is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 26th in the Council Chambers at City Hall, followed by the Committee of the Whole work session. The council meeting will be streamed live on the city's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/orangebeach. The agendas are available at https://orangebeach.novusagenda.com/agendapublic

Full Moon Paddle planned for August 12 on Wolf Bay

The last Full Moon Paddle of the 2022 summer season is scheduled for Friday, August 12th at the Orange Beach Wind & Water Learning Center on Wolf Bay.

The cost is $30 with all proceeds going to the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center. The fundraising paddle will include dinner by Wolf Bay Seafood and Steak, entertainment by Basch Jernigan & Kelly West, and a guided paddle across Wolf Bay to watch the sunset and full moon rise. Dinner and entertainment at 6:15 p.m., with the paddle starting at 7 p.m.

The Wind & Water Learning Center is at 26267 Canal Road, behind the Orange Beach Public Library.

All funds raised go directly to the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center.

  • Participants must bring their own kayak or canoe, lifejacket and white light (headlamps work best). 
  • Participants must wear life jackets during the paddle. 
  • Paddling experience is recommended.

2022 Women's Sailing Workshop

The City of Orange Beach Wind and Water Learning Center will offer a sailing workshop series taught by women for women from August 26th to August 28th.

Bring a gal pal and learn to sail together! Women can make great sailors and the WWLC staff invite them to get out on the water. The beginners' sailing course is taught in a three-day span (Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Sunday afternoon) for an all-female class. This workshop series is designed to use a fun "camp style" approach to sailing. WWLC staff will cover the basics with lots of hands-on sailing opportunities. It is perfect for complete beginners, or novices hoping to review the essentials in the company of other women.

Women 18 years+ will sail in the WWLC's Sunfish fleet. A minimum of four women are required for a class, with a maximum of eight.

Workshop schedule:
  • Friday, August 26th - 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 27th - 9 a.m.-noon
  • Sunday, August 28th - 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
Registration is now open. The cost is $225/per participant for the series. When registration opens, sign-up online via ActiveNet at 2022 Women's Sailing Workshop 8/26-8/28.

3rd Annual MAAAC Gala set for August 13 

The Orange Beach Makos Academics, Arts, and Athletics Club will host its 3rd Annual MAAAC Gala in the Grand Ballroom of Perdido Beach Resort on Saturday, August 13th at 6 p.m. 

It will be a fun-filled party to remember as MAAAC kicks off its fundraising for the year in support of Orange Beach schools. Attendees will enjoy the luxury resort atmosphere, exquisite dining, cash bar, music, dancing, and a silent auction. The doors to the Ballroom Foyer will open at 6 p.m. with the silent auction available for all guests to bid on throughout the evening. 

This spectacular night of fun and fundraising will celebrate the new Orange Beach City School Board, Superintendent Randy Wilkes, and school staff while thanking all in the community that have supported the MAAAC over the past year.

Beginning in August, the Orange Beach School Board will meet regularly on the second Thursday of each month for a 4:30 p.m. work session followed by a 5:30 p.m. regular meeting in the Orange Beach Council Chambers.

Expect Excellence After School Program Registration opens Monday

The City of Orange Beach Expect Excellence After School Program registration will open at noon on Monday, July 25th. Find details on the Expect Excellence page on the City Website. 
TINY GALLERY BLESSING BOX AT ART CENTER

The Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach has a new addition to the campus - The Tiny Gallery!

This is their art-centered blessing box. Anyone should feel free to drop items or take items and most definitely get creative!

SENIOR CENTER RENOVATIONS

The Orange Beach Adult/Senior Activity Center will be closed for renovations beginning on Monday, July 25th. Pardon our progress as the center updates the flooring in the big group room. The reopening date is currently set for the first week in August. 
VISIONS OF CHRISTMAS AUDITIONS SET  

Help us bring the spirit of Christmas to our community! Auditions for the City of Orange Beach Expect Excellence Music Department’s 2nd Annual Visions of Christmas production will be held August 1st through August 5th between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Dancers, singers, and instrumentalists are needed.
