Holiday Schedules for City Offices

During the Christmas holiday, non-essential City of Orange Beach offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 24th-25th.  Offices will open for normal business hours on Wednesday, December 26th. 

Trash and recycling routes will run one day behind starting the day after Christmas. Tuesday trash pickup will be Wednesday, December 26th, Wednesday’s recycle pick up will be on Thursday, December 27th, and Friday's trash pickup will be on Saturday, December 29th. 

City offices will also be closed on New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1st. Just like Christmas week, all routes will run one day behind. Residential routes will be serviced on Wednesday, January 2nd and Saturday, January 5th. The residential recycling route will run on Thursday, January 3rd.

Latest News

School update

Announcements were made earlier this week that said both school boards - Baldwin County and City of Gulf Shores - support a proposal from the state superintendent that says rising kindergarten through 9th graders who live in Orange Beach and outside the corporate limits of Gulf Shores will attend the new Orange Beach Middle/High School at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Rising 10th graders will have the option to either go to Orange Beach or Gulf Shores, and rising 11th graders and 12th graders will stay at Gulf Shores High School. All students living within the city limits of Gulf Shores will attend the new Gulf Shores city schools. Read more.

Dining options on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day

The Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism bureau put together a listing of restaurants that are scheduled to be open on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day. Some restaurants have chosen to be closed during the Christmas holiday. See the list.
For others, such as first responders who have to work on Christmas, Orange Beach Helping Hands Ministries will deliver Christmas dinners to more than 300 people on Christmas Day and host Christmas Dinner and fellowship from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Orange Beach Community Center. Ready or not, here comes 2019...

Looking ahead to ushering in 2019, events are planned all along the coast including the Marlin drop at The Wharf on New Year’s Eve to polar bear dips on New Year’s Day at the Flora-Bama and in Gulf Shores.

Big Community Yard Sale

The 2019 Big Community Yard & Craft Sale will be held on Saturday, January 19, from 7 a.m. to noon at the Orange Beach Community Center. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Read more. 


Willy Wonka auditions 

The City of Orange Beach Expect Excellence Theater Program will hold open auditions on Thursday, January 10th for Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Kids play. Auditions for children, third grade and up, and adults will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Orange Beach Recreation Center. Those auditioning need to arrive with a short monologue and song of their choice prepared. No prior theater experience is necessary. The performance is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 23rd. Email with questions.

The Orange Beach Police Department encourages everyone to secure their belongings by locking vehicles and homes at all times, which eliminates crimes of opportunity. For anyone in Orange Beach, if you observe suspicious activity, call the OBPD tip line at 251-981-1018. For emergencies, always dial 911.
