Big News!

You may have heard: my husband and I moved to the big island of Hawaii in December. We purchased a 512 square foot fixer upper cottage on 3 acres, and we have been working hard to make immediate needed modifications.

It feels more like home now, and we are going to pause before tackling the next big renovation projects (kitchen, bathroom, flooring). Which means, I have time to sew again!

Fractures Quilt Pattern Release

The expanded version of the Fractures digital quilt pattern (which was previously available to Modern Quilt Guild members through Modern Monthly in lap size only under the name Rock Candy) is complete and available in the Quilting Jetgirl digital pattern shop. The Fractures pattern includes instructions to make the quilt in six sizes:

  • baby (48″ x 48″)
  • throw (48″ x 72″)
  • lap (72″ x 72″)
  • twin (72″ x 96″)
  • queen (96″ x 96″), and
  • king (120″ x 120″).

The Fractures pattern is written at a confident beginner to intermediate level. The pattern does contain curves, but they are large and perfect for anyone ready to tackle learning to sew curves.

The pattern contains instructions to make a baby, throw, lap, twin, queen, or king size quilt. Also included is a coloring page for each quilt size, and lots of illustrations to guide you through each step of the quilt making process.

Fractures is on sale in my pattern shop as a digital pattern at a special introductory price of $10 through Monday, February 8th. Once you make a Fractures quilt of your own, you can share it via social media using the hashtag #FracturesQuilt.

In my pattern shop, you can combine this introductory sale price with an additional coupon for even more savings. Use the newsletter subscriber code TWOFOR20 to get 20% off all non-sale patterns when purchasing two or more patterns at checkout.

Old School Block of the Month

At the end of 2020, Kim Lapacek reached out to some designers because she was craving an “old school” style blog hop based block of the month for 2021. Starting in January, on the 12th of every month this year, a new free tutorial will be shared by one of the block of the month designers. We will be sharing our favorite methods, tips, and tricks, so this will be a great block of the month to participate in to learn some new skills!

There is still plenty of time to visit Kim today and make the first block (the Patched Friendship Star shown above) and get started with the Old School Block of the month.

Quilter Spotlight: Porfiria Gomez @mrsporfiria

Porfiria is a native New Yorker, a sewing enthusiast, self-proclaimed designer and blogger. She launched her first quilt pattern, the Dottie Quilt, at the very end of 2020. In early 2021, she co-launched the Color of Connection quilt. Follow any of the links here to learn more about Porfiria. I am looking forward to seeing more of her work in the years to come!

Upcoming Teaching Events

I am currently only booking for virtual lectures / trunk shows / workshops. Please email me at yvonne(at)quiltingjetgirl(dot)com if you are interested in having me lecture or teach at your upcoming event.

For more information on my current offerings, visit my Teaching page on my website.

QuiltCon Together

We are less than 2 weeks away from QuiltCon Together! It is a big pivot for the Modern Quilt Guild to switch to a virtual event for 2021. Due to COVID19, they made the decision very early in 2020, and while I will miss getting together with everyone in person this year, I am excited that so many more people can participate this year due to the change.

QuiltCon Together will be February 18-22, 2021. I'm teaching 3 workshops and participating in a panel lecture. Are you joining in? If so, I hope to "see" you there!

Monthly Tips and Tutorials Linkup

On the 22nd of each month, Kathleen opens up a link up where tips and tutorials can be shared. 2021 marks the second year she is hosting the linkup, and I encourage you to link up your tutorials and visit her blog each month to get tips and tricks from other quilting bloggers!

Quilting Jetgirl Designs - Made By You

Elizabeth Pan (@lizzy_sunnysa) made a stunning version of the Sky Full of Stars pattern for her daughter for Christmas. She added sliver inserts to highlight some of the stars against the background and extended the design.

Want to see your version of one of my patterns featured in an upcoming newsletter? Be sure to tag me (#quiltingjetgirl) and use the hashtag for your quilt finish on social media or send me an email with a photo and description of your finish to yvonne@quiltingjetgirl.com!
Aloha! Since my hair is clearly affected by humidity, I'm trying to embrace it.

I was able to sew for the first time in 2021 last weekend. I expect that my sewing time this year is going to look a lot different based on the amount of home and property renovations we are committed to, but it sure is nice to know my sewing machine is ready when I am.

Mahalo (thank you) for being a part of my community!
