Message from the Chair

DirectWomen is dedicated to diversity in the boardroom -- for the value it brings to the corporate dialogue and because of the powerful business case for diversity. Recent events underscore that there is still much work to be done, and we not only pledge to continue our work in promoting diversity and rejecting racism, but also encourage those in our network to use their influence in the boardroom, workplace, and community to increase diversity and reject racism and other forms of discrimination. We also acknowledge that the past few weeks, while hard for all, have had a disproportionate impact on the Black community. We hope that recent events provide an opportunity for self-reflection, at a national, local, corporate, and personal level, that can move us forward to an even better society.

DirectWomen Alumnae Added to Boards

Marguerite Woung-Chapman (Class of 2016) was elected to the board of Summit Midstream Partners, LP, a master limited partnership focused on developing, owning, and operating midstream energy infrastructure assets.

Simone Wu (Class of 2014) was elected to the board of Alarm.com, a technology company that provides cloud based services for remote control, home automation, and monitoring services.
Did you know? To date, more than 31% of DirectWomen alumnae have been elected to serve on a corporate board.

DirectWomen in the News

DirectWomen was extensively featured in the May/June "Lawyers on the Board" 2020 issue of The Practice, a publication produced by Harvard Law School's Center on the Legal Profession.

DirectWomen Board Institute Alumnae Maria C. Green (Class of 2015) and Peggy A, Heeg (Class of  2009 and Former Advisory Board Member) were featured in “Lawyer-Director or Director-Lawyer?: Three Paths to the Boardroom.” The Practice followed Maria and Peggy along their distinct career paths, describing how each found their way from practicing law to board service.

DirectWomen Board Member and Chair of DirectWomen's Board Institute, Hillary A. Sale, was featured alongside DirectWomen faculty member Lee Hanson in "What Boards Want." The Practice considers board service from a broader perspective to shed light on how lawyer-directors fit into boards' needs and composition.
