How Friends of Jones continues to support students of Jones (...and how you can help!)
Congratulations to the cast and crew of the recent production of Radium Girls at Jones College Prep!
Inspired by the recent production, FOJ would like to present a few scenes of how recent grants made possible by your contributions are bridging the CPS allocated JCP budget gaps.
[Scene One]
Actors are an important part of a theater production, but the set and lighting are also critical elements that help create the overall experience. Hiring a professional set designer, lighting designer and master carpenter ensured the quality of the production matched the talent of the students, and it provided the best (and safest) learning experience for the students to work with professionals. The Drama Club raised two thirds of the cost, and a grant from FOJ funded the remaining expense.
[Scene Two]
Perhaps after attending the play some students were curious to learn more about radium and its use in medicine today, or how the victims’ lawsuit impacted the development of occupational safety and health standards. Thanks to Jones’ subscription to JSTOR, an online academic service that gives all Jones’ students and teachers access to more than 12 million academic articles, books, and primary sources in over 75 disciplines, students and teachers are able to research those topics and more. FOJ provided a grant to renew the JSTOR subscription for the 2023 calendar year.
[Scene Three]
Radium Girls takes place in the 1920s, when jewelry design was influenced by the Art Deco movement. The JCP Jewelry Club has over 100 students from all races, gender and grades. They want to become a self-sustaining club, and a capacity grant from FOJ will allow them to purchase supplies to make jewelry, which they can then sell and use the proceeds to purchase more supplies.
All of these grants were made possible by your financial gifts to the Annual Campaign. Please make a gift now at an amount that is meaningful to you. No amount is too small, and every dollar contributed will have a significant impact for our students. And, please check to see if your employer has a matching gift program. Thank you for your support!
