Inside: Spring Benefit Tickets on Sale; Your AF Donation will be Doubled if Donate by Feb 29; Local School Council Needs Candidates—and more

From the Desk of Dr. Powers

Dear Jones Family,

I am so proud of our Jones parents and their enthusiastic level of involvement in their kids' education. The highly successful FOJ annual fund appeal is just one example of the outstanding commitment of everyone in our Jones community. Thank you once again for all you do!
One of the ways parents can get involved is by serving on the Jones Local School Council. All LSC seats (6 parents, 2 teachers, 1 support staff member, 2 community members, and 1 student) are up for election this year; voting will take place on April 23 during Parent-Teacher Conferences. The deadline to submit applications is February 25; see this link LSC Elections page for details.  If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Eric Fay ( in our Main Office.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at or 773-534-8606.
Best wishes,
P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

Thinking of Running in 2020 Local School Council Election?
Be part of the Local School Council at Jones! Parents who are interested in being an LSC candidate should complete the application by March 5 and submit it to the school's main office. For details on eligibility and to download the application form (complete 1-20, 2-20, 3-20, and 4-20) go to the 2020 LSC Election page

Are you up for the Challenge?
In case you missed it, two Jones families will match dollar for dollar, up to $3,000, for annual fund donations or increased donations made by Feb 29, 2020. This is a great opportunity to double your gift – and even more with an employee match!
The Friends of Jones Annual Fund finances the gap between the CPS budget and what it really takes to run a school of Jones’ caliber. This year alone, 63 grants totaling $215,000 were approved so that Jones students continue to receive an exceptional education and enriching experiences. Let’s keep this going!
Every student benefits from the annual fund.
We are asking for all Jones families representing 1950+ students to give what you can. Join the 227 families who have donated and together, we can reach our $250,000 goal.
Donate today!

FOJ Grants at Work

Literature students settle in for a screening of "Just Mercy."

"Thank you so much to Friends of Jones for funding the Contemporary Literature field trip to see "Just Mercy" in the movie theatre last month. Not only did the students have a great time going to the movies during a school day, they really enjoyed the opportunity to see our class novel come alive on the big screen. If you get a chance yourselves, definitely check out "Just Mercy" as a book and a movie!" —Caitlin Miller, English Department Chair and Debate Coach

With materials funded by an FOJ grant, students in Red Cross Club make Care Grams for Valentine's Day.
