This year has been a most challenging one, yet many of our donors have continued to give. We are grateful for the Jones family and community members who have donated gift cards, their services and other unique experiences. It's not too late to donate and we are grateful for all contributions.

This year we are also offering a virtual cooking class with a chef from Boka Restaurants' GT Prime. The class includes food (to be picked up at Jones) and will begin at 5:30pm on Thursday, April 15. We hope you can attend! Boka has been so generous in past years and we want to be sure to support this special restaurant group during these tough times.

It has been an honor (and a lot of work) to co-chair the online auction together for the past four years. We have met so many wonderful people along the way and hope that this year’s online auction and virtual Spring Benefit will be another success for our amazing Jones community!

All the Best,
Tracy Portnoy and Rita Parida

From the Desk of Dr. Powers

Dear Jones Family,

As we approach the 12-month anniversary of our school going remote, there are hopeful signs that we might be able to resume in-person learning at Jones before the end of the school year.  As I have mentioned before, we do not know exactly when or in what form this will happen, but it will be great to see our kids again, something I know everyone in our school family is looking forward to.  Our teachers, students and families have certainly risen to the challenge this past year, but it is time to come home to Jones. Please be assured that we will be well planned to welcome our Jones Eagles back where they belong!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at

Best wishes,

P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

Every Gift Makes a Difference!

We are so grateful to everyone who has contributed to the Friends of Jones Annual Fund this year. Every gift, no matter the size, is welcome and is used to support the students and faculty at Jones.

Just because this year has been virtual doesn’t mean that student clubs have been put on hold. Thanks to your generosity, Friends of Jones recently made grants to the Model UN Club and JCP Girls Who Code. The grant to the Model UN Club was to fund scholarships for student delegates to attend a virtual conference. And the JCP Girls Who Code Club now has enough micro:bit kits to allow all 30 students in the club to have one. Each kit contains hardware boards, cables, wires, mini speakers, tools, an experiment guide and a starter guide designed to introduce students to micro:bits.

If you haven’t made a gift yet and would like to do so, please click on the link below. And be sure to check if your employer offers a matching option for your gift! Taking just a few minutes could double your donation!

How Can You Contribute?
With these options, it’s easy to make your annual fund gift today!
1. Donate Online
2. Contribute by cash or check. Download the FOJ Annual Fund Donation Form in EnglishEspañol, or  and mail your donation to the school.
3. Participate with stock or charitable trust.

Brats and Beer, Fun is Near
Spotlight on Seniors
In this occasional series, we capture some stories about the seniors before they leave the virtual hallways of Jones and step into the world, making our community proud.

You Can Still Donate
We hope you are all well and staying safe in these challenging times. The Jones Spring Benefit will be virtual again this year on Friday, March 19, 2021. We hope to reach our fundraising goals again with the amazing Jones community's support.

There are several ways you can help make a difference now:
—Share any connection you have to a donation—experiences, vacation homes, sporting events and services are all big hits.
—Purchase and donate a gift card to your favorite small business or chain that can be sold in March at the online auction

Attached is the Jones auction letter and donation form for you to use with any donation.
We hope you and your family are hanging in there and appreciate any help you can provide!  Please contact Rita Parida or Tracy Portnoy with any questions.
Thank you!

Check Out the New Banners Around School

New banners have just been put up around Jones College Prep! This year we are also including Jones College Prep Banners for sports, academics and clubs.  These Jones Banners will rotate and change as we continue to add corporate sponsors.

The banners are available to businesses for $2000, $3000 and $5000 sponsorships, depending on location plus other benefits offered, and each will include the sponsor's name/logo along with a Jones College Prep mission message.

Money raised will be used to support Jones College Prep, funding items the school needs that are not covered by the CPS budget.

Green Team Gets Down to Earth

Green Team Plant a Tree
On April 24, 2021, Green Team will be holding a tree planting event in collaboration with Tree-Plenish, a non-profit organization. We are relying on our community to request and donate trees through our website to help us offset Jones's paper usage from past school years. By doing so, we can work together in decreasing Jones's carbon footprint and combating climate change in our city. On the day of our event we will be distributing tree saplings to those who requested one or would want one. If you choose to request a tree, you will be purchasing one for $5 to plant in your backyard. If you do not have space for a tree but would like to help our cause, you can donate a tree for $5 and give another person the opportunity to plant one in their backyard free of charge. Our goal is to plant 115 trees around Chicago so please spread the word! Every tree counts. To request or donate a tree, visit our website

Volunteers in Action
Ella Richardson, a senior at Jones, is volunteering January 23 through March 13 with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year Fundraiser on her friend Eva Remijan-Toba's team. Ella joined the team because Eva's grandfathers both sadly died of cancer, and she didn't want anyone to go through something similar. Her team is trying to raise $15,000, which will help fund LLS's groundbreaking cancer research and their ability to help cancer patients' lives improve. If you want to support this cause, please make a donation here. If you are unable to donate, please share the link instead. Thank you.

MEDIA LITERACY: “Recently, researchers surveyed 18- to 25-year olds in six countries. A majority said they had been exposed to online hate within the last three months. Most said they had come across the posts accidentally. And more than four in every 10 of the people surveyed said the posts had made them sad, hateful, angry or ashamed.” Click to read the full article by Kathiann Kowalski and learn how you and others can combat these grievous challenges.
