From the Desk of Dr. Powers

Dear Jones Family,

These are trying times for everyone, whether you are in Chicago, elsewhere in the United States, or anywhere around the globe.  The pandemic has strained our society in ways that could not have been contemplated a mere 10 months ago.  Social, economic and political rifts have opened in the fabric of our nation, many of which seem impossible to bridge.

This is also a time of hope, a time of healing.  We are faced with the urgent challenge to bring our nation back together again.  Of course, this does not mean we must agree on all matters of public dispute.  On the contrary, our nation has always been home to vigorous and often rancorous debate.  That will and should continue, as we are not a monolithic society.

The challenge for all of us is to find ways to listen, to understand and to strive to work together. We may oppose each other on many issues, but that does not mean that we cannot find ways to move forward together on the most important matters facing our nation. This is something we all can and should commit to.

P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

FOJ Virtual Benefit on the Calendar

Help Make the Spring Benefit Auction a Success
We hope you are all well and staying safe in these challenging times. The Jones Spring Benefit will be virtual again this year on Friday, March 19, 2021. We hope to reach our fundraising goals again with the amazing Jones community's support.

There are several ways you can help make a difference now:
—Share any connection you have to a donation—experiences, vacation homes, sporting events and services are all big hits.
—Purchase and donate a gift card to your favorite small business or chain that can be sold in March at the online auction

Attached is the Jones auction letter and donation form for you to use with any donation.
We hope you and your family are hanging in there and appreciate any help you can provide!  Please contact Rita Parida or Tracy Portnoy with any questions.
Thank you!

Check Out the New Banners Around School

New banners have just been put up around Jones College Prep! This year we are also including Jones College Prep Banners for sports, academics and clubs.  These Jones Banners will rotate and change as we continue to add corporate sponsors.

Is your company or business interested in supporting one of the best schools in the state? Friends of Jones is selling 31 light post banners on State, Harrison, Dearborn and Polk Streets.

The banners are available to businesses for $2000, $3000 and $5000 sponsorships, depending on location plus other benefits offered, and each will include the sponsor's name/logo along with a Jones College Prep mission message.

Money raised will be used to support Jones College Prep, funding items the school needs that are not covered by the CPS budget.

Learn more about the various Sponsorship Levels. View the map of banner locations.

Or Download a Corporate Banner Sponsorship form to send with your payment information or check. Want to make this a recurring sponsorship? Download the Recurring Payment form to send with your Corporate Sponsorship form.

The Obama eBump!
Lots of JCP students checked out "The Promised Land" by Barack Obama in eBook and eAudiobook formats. The Promised Land is only available to the wider CPS community here until January 31, 2020. Starting on February 1, JCP students and staff will be able to access it (eBook only) at this link

Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance
Encourage our students to check out and read the book "The Radical King," available as a multi-user eBook title in the JCP library. The collection features 23 selections, curated and introduced by Dr. Cornel West, “that illustrate King’s revolutionary vision, underscoring his identification with the poor, his unapologetic opposition to the Vietnam War, and his crusade against global imperialism.”

Students can examine this list with easy links to great titles provided by JCP and CPS HERE including single-user and multi-user eBooks and eAudiobooks purchased for the Jones community!
