Brought to you by Friends of Jones

October 7, 2018

From Dr. Powers
Principal, Jones College Prep.

Dear Jones Families,

What a busy week we have had and what a busy week lies ahead!
  • Homecoming 2018:  We're just wrapping up our Homecoming Spirit Week and it has been a blast!  The theme days, pep rallies, homecoming volleyball game (congratulations to Whitney Young!) and "Eagle Game" have all been great fun.  Unfortunately, we had to postpone the Homecoming Dance, which will be rescheduled at a later date.  Kudos to all the kids, staff and parents who helped make this week such a success. Who says we don't have spirit at Jones?

  • PSAT/NMSQT for Juniors:  Wed. Oct. 10, the Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT exam during the morning.  This exam provides great practice for the SAT in the spring as well as the gateway to the National Merit Scholarship Program. This will follow a normal B-Day schedule; Juniors will continue with their regular classes after finishing the exam.

  • FOJ "Friend Raiser": Also on Wed. Oct. 10, we have our annual FOJ "Friend Raiser" event at Buddy Guy's.  This is a great opportunity to get acquainted with other Jones parents, enjoy some wonderful food and thrill to the music of our outstanding student musicians.  See you there!

  • Selective Enrollment Open House: Sat. Oct. 13 is our biggest annual event (next to graduation): Open House! We will host to as many as 5,000 prospective students and their parents, introducing them to our school and its wonderful community.  Over the years, many parents have told us that their kids were undecided about their high school plans until they attended the JCP Open House.  That's what "sealed the deal"!

Thanks to everyone for all your support and encouragement!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time at  pjpowers@cps.edu or on my  direct office  line,  773-534-8606.  For news and updates, you can also follow me on Twitter @PJOSEPHPOWERS

Best wishes,

Girls Volleyball

The girls' volleyball teams (Freshman, JV and Varsity) took part in their annual service project to benefit Special Olympics on Sept. 23. The JCP athletes registered teams, posted scores, staffed scoring tables and handled set-up. The event leader plans to move facilities next year and told JCP coaches she won’t move unless the Jones girls return because they do an amazing job!

Both Varsity and JV teams beat Whitney Young in their homecoming matches on Oct. 3. Thanks to all who came out to support them and help pack the gym. Congrats Lady Eagles!
