 February 24, 2019

From Dr. Powers

Principal, Jones College Prep

Dear Jones Family,

It's hard to believe we're now more than halfway through the school year.  Our first semester went well, and I'm extremely proud of our teachers and students for all their hard work and dedication to learning. There are more exciting opportunities for learning and sharing during the second semester.  As President Reagan once said, "Their are no such things as limits to growth, because there are no limits on human capacity for intelligence, imagination and wonder." That could almost be the unofficial motto of our school!

We will begin some important assessments that impact all students. The SAT for Juniors will be administered on Tues. April 9, followed by the PSAT for Freshman and Sophomores on Wed. April 10.  We will be following a special schedule for that week; details soon to follow. AP exams take place May 6 - 17.  We will have an all-time record number of students testing this year. Unlike some standardized tests, the PSAT/SAT and AP are powerful tools to measure student success tremendously impact on our kids' preparation for graduation.

We are also now entering the "Senior Season," as the Class of 2019 heads toward our annual Commencement at the beautiful Auditorium Theater on June 13.  Although there is always some "senioritis" every year, our kids know how important it is to see things through to graduation. We will have Senior activities, including the class panoramic picture on April 22 (at Buckingham Fountain!)  and Prom on June (at the Chicago Hilton!). There is plenty to celebrate, but also plenty of work left to do. We have a Senior class meeting on April 23 to begin graduation preparations.

Thanks for supporting and encouraging our kids. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at pjpowers@cps.edu  or at 773-534-8606. Follow news and views about Jones and follow me on Twitter @pjosephpowers.

Best Wishes,

P. Joseph Powers, Ph D.
