Support Keeping Youth Healthy & Safe
7pm Thursday - Township High School District 211 Board Meeting
Dear UUs Residing in Township High School District 211,
You may have seen door hangers raising alarm about implementing SB 818, the Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act, in your high school district. The Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act creates guidelines for teaching age-appropriate, inclusive, and comprehensive personal health, safety and sexual health education in Illinois public schools. Local schools can decide whether or not to provide this education, and parents can choose to opt out their student.
Implementing these guidelines in Township High School District 211 is on the agenda when the board meets this Thursday Nov 10 (tomorrow) at 7:30pm at the Anne Koller Board of Education Meeting Room at the G.A. McElroy Administration Center, 1750 S. Roselle Rd., Palatine. The guidelines themselves on pages 3-4 in the Supplementary Curriculum Report. You are encouraged to get there at 7pm if you want to speak.
UUANI supports the Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act, which aligns with our UU commitment to providing honest, accurate, comprehensive and developmentally appropriate lifespan sexuality education through our Our Whole Lives (OWL) curriculum. SB 818 is an initiative of the Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy coalition, which includes Planned Parenthood Illinois Action, ACLU of Illinois, AIDS Foundation Chicago, Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and many more organizations from across Illinois.
