Informing Local Leaders

Hello and happy November, friends!

While some organizations are starting to slow down and embrace the unique pace of the holiday season, our Members are kicking it into high-gear with the launch of our Little Black Dress Initiative later this month. In addition to this being JLT’s most successful annual fundraiser, this week provides our Members and signature partners with the opportunity to spotlight the growing divide between communities with and without basic needs. If you or your organization is interested in matching donations for this event like Publix Super Markets Charities or TC Federal Bank, please email me at Our success is nothing without our engaged and generous partners!

I am also excited to announce that JLT will begin engaging artists, community leaders and neighborhoods this month as we design and plan the installation of our latest legacy project-- a community mural highlighting local trailblazers and sHEROs. This installation will initially be supported by a $2,500 grant awarded to JLT by the Florida Department of State. Follow us on social media for regular updates and opportunities to engage with us.

Until next time, be safe and know that the Junior League of Tallahassee is extremely grateful for your support this season.

Be the One,

Samantha Sexton
2020-2021 President

Community Impact

Little Black Dress Initiative

We are in the midst of organizing the League's fifth annual Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI), which will kick off on Monday, November 16, 2020. From November 16-20,Leaguers and community advocates will wear the same black dress or outfit as a symbolic reminder of the tough choices those living with poverty and food insecurity must face. The Little Black Dress Initiative is our largest fundraising campaign, and designed to raise vital funds and awareness for our mission and our community partners. Be on the lookout for your friends in all black, and make donations here

1 Dress + 5 Days = HUGE Community Impact! The goal of this initiative is to raise $30,000.00. The first $6,000 raised will be matched by our generous sponsors, Publix Super Market Charities and TC Federal Bank.

Big Bend Homeless Coalition & Blanket Drive

On October 17th, JLT volunteers helped collect donations at the annual Big Bend Homeless Coalition (BBHC) Coat & Blanket Drive held at Centennial Bank. It was a huge success with 176+ cars donating essential cold weather apparel and accessories. Last year, with generous community support, BBHC provided housing stability to over 1,200 of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

JLT supports an integral part of the BBHC's mission through our partnership with HOPE Community who provides emergency shelter and support services for homeless families with children.

Steel-Toe Boot Drive

Junior League Members collected eight new steel-toe boots to help labor-ready youth at Capital City Youth Services (CCYS)’ Going Places Outreach! The JLT CCYS Committee meets regularly with CCYS staff to identify unmet needs our volunteers can fill to ensure the youth served at CCYS have what they need to succeed. Tackling Food Insecurity

Second Harvest of the Big Bend

Our Mighty Meals Committee coordinated with our partners at Second Harvest to support their food packaging shifts. The Junior League of Tallahassee was among a couple of other local organizations present to ensure our neighbors have access to food. In just a few hours, as a team we helped put together 650 food bags! JLT Mighty Meals Committee is committed to addressing food insecurity issues in our community. We are proud to be able to serve alongside our friends at Second Harvest to fight hunger in the Big Bend.

Community Partnerships & Donations

To aid us in our mission of improving the lives of children and families in the Tallahassee area, JLT relies on the generosity of sponsorships and donations to enhance our community impact. When an organization financially supports the League, we support the organization in return by valuable recognition and exposure to both our members and the general public through online and in-person channels. The League consistently fosters strong partnerships with our sponsors, and we would love to work with you or your organization next!
