Second Annual Mighty Meals
|
|
JLT is gearing up for our second Mighty Meals event taking place on Saturday, March 13, 2021. This program was first launched in March 2020. Targeting our most vulnerable populations in Leon County we aim to tackle childhood hunger and food insecurity here in our backyard. With the support of our partners, JLT works with community leaders to identify families that would most benefit from this assistance.
Families that participate in Mighty Meals will receive a "Mighty Meals Box" that will provide a family of four a total of three meals a day, for the entirety of the 2021 Spring Break. With the help from our sponsors and partners - and special collaboration with Second Harvest of the Big Bend - JLT members personally oversee the development of the box contents, purchase of grocery items, packing and distribution of each meal box.
This service is offered on a first come, first serve basis. If you know of a family in need, please contact mightymeals@jltallahassee.org to see if they may be included in this event to receive a week's worth of meals. Registered families will be contacted by our Mighty Meals team to confirm their spot and pickup location.

We are excited to announce Alexis Lambert Fowler has been appointed JLFLSPAC Chair-Elect for the 2021-2022 year! Alexis will serve alongside the incoming Chair, Kate Watt, from the Junior League of the Palm Beaches. The official leadership transition will occur on Friday, May 1, 2021.
Alexis Fowler is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Tallahassee, where her provisional year was in 2007. An active participant in local and statewide SPAC initiatives, Alexis currently serves on the JLFLSPAC Board as Sustainer Advisor and has been a featured expert speaker at past JLFLSPAC Conferences. Alexis is a veteran of Florida politics and government. She began her career as a fundraiser for Bill McCollum’s successful race for Attorney General, after which she served the administration as Deputy General Counsel. Alexis is an expert in Florida’s open government laws. After McCollum left office, Alexis staffed the most recent round of Senate and Congressional reapportionment. She served under two Jacksonville mayors before returning to Tallahassee for the 2017-18 Constitution Revision Commission and then as Deputy General Counsel to Gov. Rick Scott. She is currently at the Florida Lottery, and no, she can’t give you the winning numbers. Alexis lives in Tallahassee with her husband, Gene, and their dog, Emmylou.
Congratulations to Alexis on being selected for this outstanding honor!

JLT Supports Hope Community
|
|
Junior League volunteers have been hard at work this month making grab and go craft kits and Valentine's Day treat bags for the children at HOPE Community and sprucing up the campus during our annual Outdoor Service Day. Even during COVID, volunteers are continually supporting our Jill Pope Community Partners. Click here to hear JLT members reminisce about their favorite HOPE projects and volunteer shifts.
HOPE Community provides emergency shelter to families with minor children and works to end family homelessness by providing residents with tools for employment and education, assistance with housing options, and access to supportive services. Every year, over 70% of HOPE’s residents return to stable housing. Visit BigBendHC.org to learn more about this community partner doing amazing work for children and families in our community.
