Immigration policies and programs transferred to MLTSDThe government has decided that the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) will take on responsibility for immigration work and programs from the Ministry of Children and Community Social Services. This transfer will add newcomer settlement services, immigration policy and language training to the programs already run by MLTSD in the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Division. The two ministries will work together to ensure a smooth transition. |

Ontario makes COVID-19 precautions mandatory in workplace lunchroomsIt’s important that employers create safer spaces for meals and breaks, consider how to ensure physical distancing, capacity and time limits, and good ventilation in lunchrooms. On April 23, Ontario amended the Reopening Ontario Act to require that when removing their masks to eat or drink, workers can maintain a two-metre distance or are separated by an appropriate barrier, indoors and out. Occupational exposure limits consultationThe Ministry is consulting on new or revised occupational exposure limits (OELs) based on the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists recommendations for 2018 and 2019. It is also consulting on other potential changes related to occupational health, including changes to the OELs for silica and hydrogen sulfide. The deadline for comments is June 7, 2021. Read more |

Office of the Fairness Commissioner amends assessment frameworkThe Office of the Fairness Commissioner, which ensures the registration practices of many regulated professions are compliant with fair-access legislation, recently amended its assessment framework to use an evidence-based, risk-informed model of compliance.
