                                 New Year's Newsletter

Dear friends,
Our Prelate, Msgr Fernando Ocariz, yesterday sent us his greetings for the New Year.  Earlier he had sent Christmas greetings from Africa, while winding up his pastoral trip to Kenya and Uganda.

Tenley Study Center is offering a weekend college retreat, January 31 - February 2.
It will be held at the Smith Farm on the Eastern Shore. For more information, please contact Cory Larkin

Please remember in your prayers our dearly departed brother Dennis Bolster, who passed away on Christmas eve after battling Lymphoma for over 2 years. He dedicated his life generously to serving Our Lord in Opus Dei from the early 60s and touched the lives of many.  He was a co-founder of The Heights and a strong pillar of all our local apostolic activities over the years, both in DC and Virginia. .

Go here to access the excellent resources of "The Institute for Marital Healing," by Dr. Rick Fitzgibbons.
In the get-together with the Father in Los Angeles, the first question came from Jim, a former Marine and the father of 10 children. He asked the Prelate how to help children overcome peer pressure and how to teach them the true meaning of human sexuality.
“The first thing,” the Prelate said, “is to be personally convinced that purity is a great good which is essential for human dignity …... And the dignity for which sexuality has been created is for the transmission of life in matrimony.” To overcome temptations, he said, “we should pray, for our own purity, and the purity of everyone.” The Prelate also said we should know that anything that happens can always be remedied, because we always have God's forgiveness when needed, particularly in the sacrament of confession.
