UPDATE January 27, 2018
Neighbours and Community Members:
At its last meeting, Council approved a motion by Councillor Heming (District 5) to establish an Area Advisory Committee on land-use planning/zoning focusing on the area between the west side of Mills Mountain Rd.(just beyond the Village and where the car wash is) and Victoria Beach. As Mills Mountain Road ends at the DoD rifle range, we assume this is the northern boundary. The southern boundary would be the Annapolis River. Council directed the CAO to develop a terms-of-reference for the Area Advisory Committee for consideration at February 13th Committee of the Whole.
The motion reads: to "establish an Area Advisory Committee focusing on the area between the West Side of Mills Mountain Rd, and Victoria Beach and to direct the CAO to develop a terms-of-reference for the Area Advisory Committee for consideration at February Committee of the Whole as per seven day notice to amend AM-1.3.6 Advisory Committee and Boards Policy."
After the terms-of-reference are drafted and approved, notice will go out seeking area residents for this committee who must be approved by Council. The application process for and the formation of the committee will hopefully only take a few months. We expect this committee will initially hold meetings to educate and listen to all residents on land use planning/zoning and then, make recommendations to Council who will make the final determination.
This geographic boundary was chosen solely to focus on an area. The focus area could be minimized or expanded depending upon area resident's sentiment. Residents of the Village should attend these meetings and ask that it be included. With strong input, we may still be able to get a “Special Places Area”.
Note: District 5 on Granville Road starts at the Granville Beach road sign just past the North Hills Museum. Mills Mountain Rd. to the Granville Beach sign is part of District 4.
