Tracy and Jason at our 2019 SOAR event
Tracy is one of our SOAR VIPs.  He was born with cerebral palsy and autism.  At age 9 he could barely walk or speak using long sentences.  But he didn’t let his disabilities stop him.  Through prayer, determination, and with the help of an amazing mom, he began playing sports... and then began winning trophies in the Special Olympics.  He also inherited his grandparents love of aviation.
Tracy met Jason (one of our Mission Flight pilots) when Tracy attended our SOAR events:  one in San Bernardino and one in El Monte.  Tracy was the VIP in Jason's plane.  Now, at age 15,  Tracy is taking flying lessons from Jason at the Redlands Airport.  On land, Tracy's left hand still shakes a little from the cerebral palsy; but in the air, his hands are steady.

Tracy's favorite part of flying is taking off.  Flying makes him feel happy, proud, and confident.  Tracy is very excited about SOAR, and wears his SOAR t-shirt everyday.

Tracy's goal in aviation is to get a pilot's license and to join the air force.  He also wants to give back to SOAR.  When he gets his license, he wants to teach other kids how to fly.

"It does not matter where you come from, it matters where you are going.  Tracy demonstrates that quality with his perseverance, dedication, and positive attitude".  Jason Rearick, CFI, CFII, MEI, Mission Flight Academy, Tracy's flight instructor

"SOAR means a lot to kids with disabilities.  It makes a difference in their lives."  Virginia, Tracy's mom

Through SOAR, youth with special needs will have the opportunity to fly real airplanes.  By pairing the unique joy of aviation with achievement, SOAR aims to foster confidence in kids so that they may soar towards their greatest potential.  We will resume these events when it is safe to do so.
