Dear Parents,

The weekly newsletter is always jam-packed with important information. With that I would like to highlight three very important items below.

The Niwot Elementary parent community and the support we receive is one of the many things that help make our school what it is. We are so fortunate! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read the very important information below about the Cougar Campaign. Every year this a HUGE fundraiser, and we thank you for your generous commitment to our students.

Nothing says community like the Niwot Trot and it's coming up on Sunday, October 2. We are so excited to have this event back after a two year hiatus. Come run and walk with the Niwot Elementary students and staff! The registration form is below.

Finally, St. Vrain Valley Schools invites parents, teachers, staff, and community members to join Superintendent, Dr. Don Haddad, for one of our upcoming Superintendent Town Hall meetings. These meetings will provide an opportunity to engage in dialogue regarding important topics such as student achievement and success for every student, school safety, district finances, and other significant topics of importance for our community. Please see below for a variety of dates and locations.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for partnering with us every day to do what is best for our students.

As always, please reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Nancy Pitz
Principal

Hello NES families!

We have had an awesome start to our 2022 Cougar Campaign! Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated so far - we are already at 15% of our goal!

As a reminder, the Cougar Campaign is NES PTAC’s biggest annual fundraiser, and the one that we ask EVERY family to support. The PTAC has chosen this direct appeal to families through the Cougar Campaign instead of other sales or fundraisers (e.g., food and wrapping paper sales) that are more time and labor intensive for families. Funds raised through the Cougar Campaign go directly back to NES to support ALL students, teachers, and staff.

For more information and to donate, visit https://www.niwotptac.com/cougar-campaign.html or contact Molly Walsh at fundraising@niwotptac.orgSuggested donation levels are $250 for families with 1 child at NES and $300+ for families with 2+ children at NES. Any donation in any amount is welcomed and appreciated!

Thank you in advance for supporting our school!

With gratitude,
Your Niwot PTAC
Introducing Noah Tank

I am very excited to introduce our new Discovery Lab para, Noah Tank.  Noah comes to us with a variety of experience in education. Noah has been an instructional para, special educational para, and an innovation lab para. Last year when he was working in Thompson Valley School District (TVSD) as an innovation lab para, he was named the TVSD classified staff member of the year. Mr. Tank has come full circle in St. Vrain Valley School District where he is a graduate of Longmont High School. He also currently coaches football at Longmont High and boys basketball at Lyons Middle/Senior High. Mr. Tank is super excited to be at Niwot Elementary where he can help students learn and grow through STEM and to be able to teach PK-5 students the design thinking process and productive struggle in the Discovery Lab. Welcome to Niwot Elementary Mr. Tank! We are so lucky to have you on our team.
The 15th annual Niwot Trot 5k run/walk is back for 2022!  After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, this family and community wide favorite event is back on Sunday, October 2, 2022.  All proceeds go directly to help fund paraprofessional support for every grade level at NES.
Join 500+ of your closest friends, neighbors, and community members as you run, jog, trot or simply walk on the professionally timed flat, out and back 5km (3.1mile) course.

Additional information and registration available at https://www.niwotptac.com/niwottrot.html. T-shirts are available on a first come first served basis - so register early to secure yours!

Our character trait of the month is respect. This month we are talking with students about respect and what it means at school, in relationships, at home, and in the community. Students also need to show respect for others even when they are different from them. We will be watching for examples of respect throughout September. Students that go above and beyond in demonstrating this character trait will receive a brag tag to add to their collection. We look forward to celebrating our Respect student's of the Month at our October PBIS assembly.  Please also celebrate any observations of respect in your own home and the community with your child!
The PTAC sponsored outdoor movie night on the hill will be Friday, September 30. Come early to set-up your area at 6:30pm and the movie will then begin at dusk. More information to come!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 4, 6, 12. Teachers will be sending out additional information regarding this. Please know that in-person conferences will be scheduled.
The hospitality committee would love your help to provide meals to our teachers and staff during parent-teacher conferences. Please click on the following link to sign up! Every contribution is appreciated! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0e4cafa72ba1fd0-fall

Calling all 1st - 5th grade students!

Are you interested in being part of the Mwebaza Club this year? Do you like having fun? Making new friends? Playing games? Learning about Uganda and our partner school there? Planning and working at some fundraising events? Cooking and trying out some Uganda recipes? If you say YES to some of these things the Niwot-Mwebaza Club is the place for you! The club meets two Wednesday mornings a month at Niwot Elementary School. The first meeting will be Wednesday September 28th at 8:15am in the Science Garden. We have so many fun activities and leadership opportunities planned for this year!

Some ideas and projects for the 2022/2023 school year:

  • Creating presentations to share with all students at Niwot Elementary.
  • Planning and advertising events such as; Mwebaza Day, Jog-a-thon, Student Art Sale and restaurant nights.

  • Learning about Global issues and how they relate to Colorado and Uganda.

Dear Niwot Feeder School Parents,

On Tuesday, September 27th from 6:00-7:30pm, the College Funding Coach will offer a free web workshop.  There is no cost (except your time) to attend.
As you can imagine, the stock market has gone up and gone down.  Taxes have gone up and gone down.  Unemployment has increased and then decreased.  But two things have remained constant every year: approximately 20 million high school students head off to college, and since 2000, the cost of tuition and fees at American colleges has more than tripled the rate of inflation.
Whether you have a preschool student or a senior in high school, you will learn valuable information that is timely for you. I have seen the workshop and am excited to participate.
I've attached a flyer about The College Funding Coach event. Register by clicking on the following link: College Funding Coach Registration
While the event is free of charge, registration is appreciated.

Gifted and Talented Referrals

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress.  In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.

Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.

The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

For questions, please contact Audrey Lenger, lenger_audrey@svvsd.org
