Principal Corner
Dear Niwot Elementary Families,

This week is Homecoming week at Niwot High School, and we are excited to be able to watch the parade on Friday, September 9 as it will travel right by our school. We are hoping that students will dress-up in green or in their favorite Niwot Cougar gear. Families are also invited to watch the parade with us at Niwot Elementary.

The Niwot High School Homecoming parade will be traveling on Marathon Rd. and Walker Rd. Our entire school will line the inside of the playground fences to watch and support our beloved Niwot High School. The parade leaves Niwot High School at 3:00pm so we anticipate it arriving around 3:10pm. Please see the map below for the entire parade route.

Important parking information:

  • Street parking will be open if you would like to park your car and watch the parade with us.

  • You may park in the school parking lot, and along Morton Rd (north of school).

  • Please do not park in the Kiss and Catch Lane in front of the main entrance of the school or the Queue Lane on Morton Rd as cars will be lining up there for pick-up time.

  • Please do not park on Marathon Rd. (south of school) or Walker Rd (west of school) as that is the parade route and we want our students to be able to see.

  • As always, please respect our neighbors and their driveways.

  • If possible, walk or bike to the school or consider parking at the high school or surrounding neighborhoods.

  • At the conclusion of the parade, classes will go back inside until dismissal time at 3:40pm. If you would like to wait to pick-up your child after school please wait on the upper hill. If you will be picking up your child early, you will need to go to the front office to check them out.

Thank you in advance for your patience with traffic during pick-up time after the completion of the parade.

We look forward to supporting Niwot High School and giving our students the opportunity to watch the parade. It will be great! Don’t forget to have your students wear green or their favorite Niwot Cougar gear.

Thank you,

Nancy Pitz

Introducing Tara Hess

We are excited to welcome our new Resource Teacher to Niwot Elementary, Tara Hess. Mrs. Hess began teaching in special education 5 years ago at Alpine Elementary. Prior to getting her masters degree in education, she worked on the University of Colorado Boulder campus at the Museum of Natural History as a database designer and systems administrator. Her technology background allows her to utilize many Ed-tech tools in her teaching. Some fun facts about Mrs. Hess is that she has a degree in library and information sciences, and has worked in many academic libraries as an archivist and librarian. She has also worked at NASA for the Earth Observatory website, which provides earth science data and information to the general public. When not teaching, she enjoys hiking, gardening and reading. She lives in Longmont with her husband, 2 children (13 and 16 years old), and their cat, Oliver. Mrs. Hess is very excited to be teaching at Niwot, and has enjoyed getting to know the staff, students and families.  Of all the careers she's had, teaching has been the most rewarding, and she's thankful for the opportunity to work with those students at Niwot who need extra support. Welcome to Niwot Elementary! We are very excited to have you on our team.
In honor of Labor Day, there will be no school on Monday, September 5th
A reminder that Wednesday, September 7 is a late start day. School begins at 11:35am for K-5 students. Preschool is on a regular daily schedule with both AM and PM classes. Buses run 2.5 hours later than your normal pick-up. Thank you for not dropping students off at school prior to 11:20am as there is no supervision until then.

Gifted and Talented Referrals

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress.  In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.

Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.

The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

For questions, please contact Audrey Lenger,

Dear Niwot Elementary students and families,

Thank you for your partnership and supporting the academic growth, safety, and well-being of our students. Every year, St. Vrain Valley Schools prints an up-to-date version of the Code of Conduct for students and families to review. This important document guides students and school staff on what expectations for school conduct and the consequences for behaviors that fall outside of those expectations. It is important that families review this information every year and acknowledge their receipt and understanding of this document.

To this end, please click the following link to access the Code of Conduct:  After you have reviewed this information, all families must sign an electronic acknowledgement that they have received, read, and understand the information contained, including the Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians; Behavioral Code of Conduct; Rights and Responsibilities of Students and Parents; and Board of Education Policies book. To sign your electronic acknowledgement, please follow the directions at this link:

Again, thank you for your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at 303-652-2828.

100 Mile Club is back!

We would love students to join us in Niwot Elementary's 100 Mile Club this year!  100 Mile Club starts Monday, September 12, and meets every Monday, Thursday, and Friday before school from 8:20-8:50 AM.  Students run, jog, or walk on our upper grass field.  Each lap is tracked and miles are displayed on our club bulletin board in the hallway.  Students are welcome to participate in any or all of the 3 days each week.  Our club meets throughout the year until the end of April.

This is a great before school activity that gets students exercising with their friends, and motivates them to set mileage goals throughout the year!

If interested, please fill out the online registration form that includes a $20 one time fee and a Return to Activities Release Form.

100 Mile Club FAQS

Does my child have to come to every practice?

No, students come when they want.  Some attend every practice, some only come once a week.

Will a meeting time ever get cancelled?

If there is a weather related late start or school cancellation, the club will not meet.

What happens if it's raining, snowing, or freezing outside?

The club will meet inside the school and students will walk a course in the hallways to receive 1 mile.

Where does the 100 Mile Club meet?

On our upper grass field.  A sign will be posted on the front doors if inside due to weather.

Can parents/guardians participate and/or volunteer to help?

Absolutely!  We encourage parents to run with their child and we also have many volunteer opportunities available!  Parents, please do not fill out the form and pay for yourself.  Only student members need to pay.

Do you have to run?

All we ask is that members move around the track.  Some run, jog, walk, skip.

Can my preschooler join the club?

Preschoolers are welcome to join as long as a parent or guardian runs with them.

I hope to see your child up on the field with us! Let's get moving!

Thank you!
