Dear Niwot Elementary Families: 
It's been an outstanding start to the 2022-2023 school year. The teachers and students have hit the ground running and everyone is working super hard. I can already tell it's going to be an awesome year! We can't wait to welcome our youngest learners, the preschoolers, tomorrow, Monday, August, 22. 

We are looking forward to seeing all of our families over the next few weeks for the Back to School meetings that will be held in your student's classroom. This week we welcome our 1st grade (Monday) and 5th grade (Thursday) families. 

Students will be working on iReady reading and math assessments over the next few weeks. These are important assessments that help us get a baseline with where your child is at in reading and math. We do understand that this is only one data point and we take other factors into account as well. 

Please make sure you read the important information below about iPad insurance. Similar to last year, there will be charges for lost or damaged iPads. By taking advantage of iPad insurance, it will help with these possible costs. 

In addition, please also make sure you read the important information about the Code of Conduct. Thank you for taking the time, with your child, to review and sign this important document.

Thank you for your partnership and supporting the academic growth, safety, and well-being of our students. Every year, St. Vrain Valley Schools prints an up-to-date version of the Code of Conduct for students and families to review. This important document guides students and school staff on what expectations for school conduct and the consequences for behaviors that fall outside of those expectations. It is important that families review this information every year and acknowledge their receipt and understanding of this document. 

To this end, please click the following link to access the Code of Conduct:  After you have reviewed this information, all families must sign an electronic acknowledgement that they have received, read, and understand the information contained, including the Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians; Behavioral Code of Conduct; Rights and Responsibilities of Students and Parents; and Board of Education Policies book. There will be a vision and hearing screening at Niwot Elementary on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. 

Your child(ren) may be on the list to be screened. Please encourage them to bring/wear their glasses to school this day.  If our screening indicates that your student needs further evaluation, you will be notified by mail. Please contact your health clerk if you have questions or concerns.

Thank you to everyone for working hard to keep students, staff, families and our community safe. Here are the important traffic procedures that are very important we all follow every day: An important reminder to not drop students off in the parking lot (unless you are parking and walking in with them), always use the cross walks (do not climb under or over the chains), and pull all the way forward in the Kiss and Catch line.

The federal program funding free breakfast and lunch for all students has ended, so students need to now purchase these. Breakfast is $2.50 and school lunch, which includes milk, is $3.75 for students. It is $0.75 for any additional milk. 

Families are encouraged to apply online  for free and reduced lunch. The application from previous years does not carry over to this year. Approval for this program not only provides reduced or free prices for lunch, but also reduces fees for iPad insurance, district sports, and clubs. If you prefer to access the application in a language other than English, you can do so in the top right corner.

School Transportation Reminder:

Quick reminder - applications for bus transportation need to be completed yearly. Students who are within Niwot's attendance area and who live within a certain distance from school are eligible. You can complete your online application here.

iPad Insurance

The LTP Student iPad Insurance window for the 2022-2023 school year opened on August 1st and closes on September 15th. Parents who wish to join the insurance pool for this year will need to make at least a partial payment within this window. To purchase insurance please click HERE.

This insurance fee was added for every eligible student K-12 on August 1st. Please note that any student with an unpaid balance for iPad insurance from the previous year will not be eligible to join the pool this year until they pay off the previous year’s balance.
2022-2023 LTP Student iPad Insurance: $25.
The iPad insurance fee will be reduced or waived for students eligible for a free or reduced price lunch under the federal poverty income guidelines and homeless students as defined by McKinney-Vento.

100 Mile Club is back!  

We would love students to join us in Niwot Elementary's 100 Mile Club this year!  100 Mile Club starts Monday, September 12, and meets every Monday, Thursday, and Friday before school from 8:20-8:50 AM.  Students run, jog, or walk on our upper grass field.  Each lap is tracked and miles are displayed on our club bulletin board in the hallway.  Students are welcome to participate in any or all of the 3 days each week.  Our club meets throughout the year until the end of April.

This is a great before school activity that gets students exercising with their friends, and motivates them to set mileage goals throughout the year!

If interested, please fill out the online registration form that includes a $20 one time fee and a Return to Activities Release Form.

100 Mile Club FAQS

Does my child have to come to every practice?

No, students come when they want.  Some attend every practice, some only come once a week.

Will a meeting time ever get cancelled?

If there is a weather related late start or school cancellation, the club will not meet.

What happens if it's raining, snowing, or freezing outside?

The club will meet inside the school and students will walk a course in the hallways to receive 1 mile.

Where does the 100 Mile Club meet?

On our upper grass field.  A sign will be posted on the front doors if inside due to weather. 

Can parents/guardians participate and/or volunteer to help?

Absolutely!  We encourage parents to run with their child and we also have many volunteer opportunities available!  Parents, please do not fill out the form and pay for yourself.  Only student members need to pay.  

Do you have to run?

All we ask is that members move around the track.  Some run, jog, walk, skip.

Can my preschooler join the club?

Preschoolers are welcome to join as long as a parent or guardian runs with them.

Welcome back families and students! We are so excited to have everyone back! We are here to support you and your student(s).  If your child is having a hard time with the transition back to school please do not hesitate to reach out to the counseling program Isabelle Goulder (Mrs. Izzy - Mental Health Interventionist) and Bethany Zeranski (Mrs. Zeranski - School Counselor), or visit our counseling website for additional resources. 

Counselors schedules are both part time so please allow up to 48 hours for a response. If you have a more urgent concern please also contact your student’s teacher and/or the office.

MILK CAPS for MOOOLA is a program sponsored by Longmont Dairy that helps students earn money for their school and students. Longmont Dairy milk caps are worth 5¢ each. Just send your Longmont Dairy milk caps into the office, and we will take care of the rest!
