Urge the City Council to reject Mayor Castor’s proposal to increase Tampa Police Department’s budget by $13 million, and instead urge them to move that money into the community.
19% of the city’s population is at or below the poverty line. The city should invest in an equitable housing program, a child care voucher program, and a Tampa jobs program, which will boost our city’s economy.
13% of the city’s population are uninsured residents, so the city should invest in a health care program to ensure people have access to health care, which includes mental health and substance abuse treatment.
The city should look at programs like CAHOOTS and the Office of Neighborhood Safety that serve as alternative first responders to assist individuals in crisis, without burdening the police.
