Tampa Charter Review Commission Event
Wednesday, 3/28 @ 5pm: 315 E Kennedy Blvd
Please join the Restorative Justice Coalition for this important opportunity in police reform. Join us for the Charter Review Workshop on Weds, 3/28 and bring friends.
We are calling for:
*Change the Police Chief into an electable position where the people decide who is going to be the Chief through direct vote. (Community Control)
*Mandate implicit bias and cultural competency training, which MUST be taught by an outside provider, at LEAST 40 hours and make it a requirement ANNUALLY for every officer, including the Chief.
*Update body camera policies to require all officers to be equipped with them, that must be turned on during citizen contact unless requested otherwise by the citizen, that's footage is readily available for review by complainants and that prohibits bio-metric screening of any kind.
54% of all of Tampa's arrests in a five-year trend are black, despite the fact that black residents only account for 26% of the City's population. It's time to build into policy formidable change that protects the most vulnerable and targeted members of our communities.
