Message from our President

Dear Friends
Happy New Year, as I utter these words it reminds me of not so happy for many who lost everything in the devastating fires, we are so very sorry for so much suffering – from loss of loved ones, property, memories and indeed our natural habitat and animals. As if drought was not enough we were confronted by which seemed an endless fire raging our national. I was privileged to be part of the Fijian Indian community that cooked and served food for the RFS and community of Balmoral, Buxton and Bargo, I saw firsthand the fire that swept through the roads, houses, and communities – heart wrenching. Honestly I stood in front of the fire station at Balmoral looking around and wondering - how are we going to quickly rebuild, and I use the word quickly because that is what is needed –sense of urgency –these are people’s lives. Governments are doing much as are the communities however thus far I have seen little on the ground to individuals. I amongst many others are keenly watching as to how the charity dollars are spent on the ground.
It is bleak and a sorry state of affairs but there is hope, goodwill, comradery and love for all. People affected by the fires are so amazing, their positive attitude and resilience will build their community again. SHARE as part of its health and wellbeing program is talking to various coordinating groups and levels of government to provide exercise and YOGA classes for body mind and spirit, our evidence based classes prove that our programs help with mental, physical and spiritual health. I believe YOGA is much needed to help – we are looking for volunteer to run a class and if would like to be part of this programs and help people in need do contact us please. We have also commenced a fundraising please see below and support.

SHARE's Tips to You
How to protect yourself from bushfire smoke
As Australia’s worst bushfire season continues with haze spreading NSW and Queensland in particular, health experts have warned people of the dangers of exercising outside.

Dont worries, SHARE got your back, most of our classes are in door. Check our latest 2020 Timetable to find you a suitable class.

In a meantime, here are some tips to protect yourself from bushfire smoke:
  • Follow your doctor’s advice about medicines and your asthma management plan if you have one. Keep your medication close at hand. Consult your doctor if symptoms worsen.
  • Monitor air quality and follow health messages
  • Avoid vigorous outdoor activity
  • Spend more time indoors. Keep doors and windows shut to keep the smoke out. Open windows and doors whenever the smoke clears.
  • Spend time in air conditioned venues like cinemas, libraries and shopping centres.
  • Avoid indoor sources of air pollution like cigarettes, candles and incense sticks.
