Welcome to The Highland Bookshop Newsletter
Please forward on to your friends!
Hello everybody!

We've been back online for one whole week now and thought it might be a good time to share a bit of what we are up to.

We are glad to be back and have a lot planned for June - including our first ever online Reading Group meeting and the official launch of our brand new Young Readers Review Panel! - read on for details on those plus new shop services starting this week.

Finally, our lovely staff (still on furlough) have very kindly sent over their lockdown reads for us to share with you all.

What have you been reading? Are there any Summer releases you are looking forward to? Let us know your news.

All the best and we hope to see you soon.

Sarah-Lou & The Highland Bookshop Team

Kerb-Side Pick Ups/Take-Away Books!
From Wednesday this week, we plan to commence Kerb-Side collections from our High Street shop front and offer at-the-door recommendations too. We can't wait to talk books with you again (from a very safe distance!)

No-Contact Collections - Wednesday to Saturday
12pm to 3pm.

We have taken several measures to ensure that both our staff working in the shop and our customers visiting us feel as safe as possible but please do get in touch if you'd like to ask any questions and get the lay of the land before you pop by.

And don't worry if you don't fancy hitting the High Street quite yet as we will still be delivering and posting books out too.

Book of the Month...
We were due to host a launch event around the release of this amazing new title from Birlinn Books in May which we were very sad to have to cancel. Hopefully we will to be able to bring Patrick to The Highland Bookshop sometime very soon!

Just before lockdown we teamed up with our High Street pals The Emporium of Worldly Goods and The Granite House to offer a Mother's Day Gift Bundle and it was so popular we decided we just had to do one for the dad's too!

Young Readers Review Panel

Way back in February 2020 (it does feel a long time ago!) we formed a gang of very enthusiastic readers aged 9 to 13 who would review books for us to recommend in the shop.

Who better to recommend books for kids than the kids themselves!?

This month, despite everything going on in the world, we received our first lot of submissions and we are delighted to be able to publish some of them on our website here!

We look forward to sharing more online each month and you'll be able to see all of their reviews in the shop and on our website once we open up again.

Staff Lockdown Reads...

We'd love to know what have you been reading too!
Native: Life in a Vanishing Landscape By Patrick Laurie
Nature writing, farming and a man coming to grips first hand with our impact on the natural world. Laurie is a passionate, eloquent writer who’s love of Galloway saturates the pages of this wonderful book.
You can read Kelsey's review of Mudlarking by Lara Maikem here
My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante
A novel I’ve been meaning to read for some time. Reading this highly detailed and sprawling account of a lifelong friendship between two women has been a truly immersive experience. Ferrante evokes the streets of Naples with the same forensic detail that she does the complex and all consuming friendship between Lila and Lenù. It is a perfect read if you want to step into another world!

Esther (and Rufus!)...
Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan

It's so easy to get lost in this book and sink into the lives of its inhabitants, which makes for a perfect read for those looking to find distraction. An incredibly moving collection of interconnected vignettes that capture the moments lives interact and fortunes intertwine.

Kimberley (And Lily-Grace!)...
Guess How Much I Love You in the Summer by Sam McBratney

Little Nutbrown hare loves playing in the sun and this book is all about his favourite summer colours! It’s beautifully illustrated and is a nice quick read so little children don’t get bored half way through!
