Chair Yoga this Sunday at 9:30 am in the Chamber Library.
5th Sunday at Carol Light's House - bring a lunch.
A Note from Linda:
"Creeping meaninglessness is a private cost of making the nature of the flourishing life a mere matter of taste. There is public cost as well: cultural "dialogue" about the meaning of human life and about our [corresponding values] ends up looking like the shouting talking heads of cable news. We are unable to reason with—or even speak with—one another about this most important project of our lives, let alone formulate a vision of flourishing life that encompasses all of humanity and all creatures, a pressing concern in a highly interconnected and interdependent world. As a result, many prefer the disengaged individualism of lives built on unreflective soft relativism (your vision is true for you, my vision is true for me) to lives invested in the truth of our common humanity."
Excerpt from For the Life of the World:
Theology that Makes a Difference,
by Miroslav Volf and Matthew Croasmun
Many of you have commented that the inquiry we have embarked upon this fall—the inquiry into what constitutes a flourishing life—is not an easy conversation. Not only is it hard to articulate a vision of what constitutes a flourishing life, but we are not certain where to look for answers. This Sunday we will take a look at one aspect of a flourishing life, one way of accessing insight into this inquiry. In the meantime:
Don't forget your homework this week: Ask someone the following:
What constitutes a flourishing life?
How do you decide what constitutes a flourishing life?
Where do you look for your answers to these questions?

Learn more about being a board member on our website. You must be a member of the Church if you would like to be considered.
New Member Class
October 13th & 20th after Service
This two day class will include:
An overview of Unity Georgetown’s history and information about the various activities of the church. These presentations will be led by our prayer chaplain team leader, angel team leader, Board members, and many other members of our church. These presentations offer a great overview of all that is happening in our church and the ways in which you can get involved.
The class also includes an exploration of the history of New Thought and Unity History. This exploration is led by Cathy Schwanke, LUT.
If you are new to Unity, attendance at both sessions of this new member class is required to become a member of Unity Church of Georgetown.
If you are currently a member of another Unity Church and would like to transfer your membership to UCOG, you may attend just the second class.
You must be a member of this congregation to vote at the upcoming Annual Meeting on Nov. 3rd, where we will elect Board Members and bylaw changes.

Affirmative meditative prayer is at the heart of the Unity spiritual path. The Unity way of prayer is ultimately aimed at the experience of the Divine and Realization of the practitioner’s Divine Potential. Along the way, there are practical benefits, including guidance, healing, and abundance. In this course, students are introduced to Unity’s Five-Step Prayer Process and supported in developing their daily prayer practice.
The Fun and Fellowship Committee is hosting a Freecycle event here at Church on Sunday, October 20. Bring your unwanted but useable household items to church to offer up for free so they may be someone else’s treasure. If you have large items, such as lawnmower or fridge, describe them on a card with your name and contact info. The only catch, if no one loves it, you take it back home.
Look up freecyclegeorgetown.com, an online way to ask for and offer things totally for free.

The Bucket of Hope: Final month to support The Caring Place
This is the last Sunday to support The Caring Place. The Caring Place provides financial assistance, clothing, food, financial training, and many many more services.
The Caring Place has requested the following items:
Toothbrushes - Toothpaste - Deodorant - Cereal of all kinds
We now have an ongoing collection for the Ronald McDonald House. You can help support the Ronald McDonald House by collecting the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup or other aluminum cans. The funds generated from recycling these aluminum gems help offset the House's expenses such as their electric bill. There is a jar on the Bucket of Hope table in the back of the Sanctuary to deposit your tabs.
Our Bucket of Hope for October through December will be Children’s Advocacy Center in Georgetown. They support children who have suffered abuse through Family Advocacy, Counseling, Interviews, Exams and Outreach Trainings. They are asking us to fill their cupboards with individually wrapped snacks for kids. Chips, goldfish crackers, cookies, nuts, anything you think a kid would like.
