Bucket of Hope items needed for the William County Children's Advocacy Center: Chips, goldfish crackers, cookies, nuts, anything you think a child would like.
A Note from Linda:
Discover the Power Within, Eric Butterworth's seminal text had quite an impact on me when I first read it nearly three decades ago. Subtitled, A Guide to the Unexplored Depths Within, it strikes me that upon my first reading, I was most likely motivated by an unstated, if not entirely unrecognized, desire to "harness" that power: How could I use it to better my life, was primarily, as I recall, my motivation.
Harness is a portentous word. It brings to mind perhaps a young or wild horse, unused to a saddle or reins, whose will is gradually bent to serve its rider's commands. Harness applies also to powers such as hydroelectric dams—harnessing energy to serve our needs. Recalling a motive to harness the Power Within makes me wince a bit when confronted with the question posed by Miroslav Volf in his text exploring the idea of a flourishing life, the question that asks—have we made God into a tool we construct and use to service our ends? How different an experience would it be to simply enter into the Divine Dance, to open to the Power Within, open to Divine Love allowing it to mold us and shape us into its image and likeness?
This Sunday we will explore how shifts in context, shifts in motivation impact our sense of flourishing life. I hope you will join us—your presence on Sunday is a powerful ministry!

Brunch church stems from the idea that authentic community happens when people get to know each other and for all of human history one of the primary ways people have gotten to know each other is over a meal. The word "companions" literally means "those who break bread together." Brunch church is very different from our potlucks. It is still very much a worship service, but is focused on sharing a light meal together and engaging in authentic, spiritually directed conversations with one another.
Volunteer Meeting THIS SUNDAY, November 10th: There will be a VERY BRIEF meeting for the brunch church table hosts following the service this Sunday, November 10th, prior to the Fun and Fellowship meeting. We need a couple more people to volunteer as table hosts. So if you’re interested in being a table host or have already agreed to do so, please join us at 11:45 in the boardroom.

We have all gotten emails from Nigerian princes or a call the IRS, but these turn out to be fake. Someone tried to scam you into thinking they were someone else. Either by fear or greed, the scammer wanted you to pay them money. Most of us close the email or hang up the call. But what if you believed them? How do you spot if someone you love has fallen for this trap? You can defend yourself and those close to you by becoming a Holiday Hero. Join me for my talk about the latest in scams and what to do about them.
Are you interested in taking a 4T Class?
It has been suggested by a congregant that the 4T class might be something others in our congregation would enjoy. Not sure what the 4T class is all about? Check it out here. If you are interested in participating in this class during the new year, we will facilitate getting an instructor and the kits for those wishing to participate. Let us know here.
Are you interested in being a READER during the upcoming holiday season?
We are looking for a team of people we can call on when we have multiple readings during a Service. Most of the readings will be short, a few sentences to a short paragraph. If you are interested in being part of this team, please let Cathy know by emailing her here.

The Bucket of Hope:
Our Bucket of Hope through December will be The Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center. They support children who have suffered abuse through Family Advocacy, Counseling, Interviews, Exams and Outreach Trainings. They are asking us to fill their cupboards with individually wrapped snacks for kids. Chips, goldfish crackers, cookies, nuts, anything you think a kid would like.
We now have an ongoing collection for the Ronald McDonald House. Keep those tabs coming! We have filled one container so far. Let's help them get those expenses paid.
