Hi <<First Name>>!
I don't know about you, but this summer has been a weird one. It's somehow managed to fly by while simultaneously feeling like it hasn't even started yet. Maybe it's been the unpredictable weather in the city (90 degrees one day, 65 and rainy the next) or maybe it's because I have no basis of comparison: this has been my first full summer in NYC.
I moved to the city a year ago. August 13, 2016—easily, the hottest and most humid day of last year. I remember stepping out of the JFK terminal and being practically knocked over by the thick, August air.
But, there was something magical about my first (albeit, muggy) evening in NYC. There were a lot of unknowns, but my fear quickly transformed into overwhelming excitement for the possibilities in front of me...and my seven suitcases. To this day, I still don't know how I a) managed to carry all that myself and b) managed to "downsize" my wardrobe that much.
Anyway, it hasn't always been easy. There've been many tears...and there may or may not have been a full-on public meltdown in the Ace Hotel lobby. But all in all, I really do feel like I've built a happy life here over the past 12 months. And if this past year is any indication of what New York has to offer...I'm excited for what's to come.
So, that's why I celebrated my #NYCiversary, and encourage all other New York newbies to do the same. It's like a birthday, but better...because you really feel like you've earned it.
Happy last few weeks of summer!
P.S. I recently launched the 5th Floor Walk-Up Print Shop where I'm selling my own street photography prints. If you're looking for some new wall decor, browse my favorite shots below!
