WELCOME TO THE TEAM!
The CIS team is excited to introduce our new Development and Outreach Coordinator Hollis Cobb! Hollis brings a wide variety of experiences to CIS ranging from social media marketing to event planning. Prior to graduating from the University of Mary Washington, he directed a nonprofit that worked with five Fredericksburg-area school districts to provide essential services to students in need. Hollis is bringing his passion for the CIS mission to this role as he begins supporting our fundraising and communications work. Please join us in welcoming him to the team!
"I am so excited to be a part of the incredible impact that this organization has on the students of Chesterfield!"

HANDS-ON CAREER EXPLORATION
We have been piloting a new program at L.C. Bird High School this year, in partnership with the Citizen Information and Resource office, called Workforce Bridge. The program is designed to expose and prepare students to and for career fields of interest. Participating students will be connected with tangible professional development opportunities, such as soft skill workshops, industry mentors, hands-on learning, and more. Their first field trip was to Chesterfield County Government's offices, where they got to shadow different Chesterfield Government employees for the day. Students were paired up with employees based on their career goals and interests. Each pair talked about goal setting, what it is like to work in that field, and what it takes to prepare for work in that industry. The day was a great success and students loved their time with their job shadow mentors. Thanks to the County for being a part of this event!

BUDDING LEADERS
Throughout the 2022-2023 academic year, students from the Chalkley Elementary School's Leadership League and Meadowbrook High School's International Baccalaureate program have been meeting monthly via Google Meet. Organized by our CIS Site Coordinators at those two schools, this program was developed to help connect our younger students to their older peers and vice versa. Chalkley students have a chance to learn about the high school experience, while Meadowbrook teens participate in an opportunity to give back to their peers. As part of a shared in-person service activity, students from both schools came together to plan, clean up, weed, and prepare Chalkley's courtyard for the spring growing season. Shoutout to our CIS Site Coordinators at Chalkley and Meadowbrook for collaborating to make this happen!

CIS-C RESOURCE CORNER
Week of the Young Child
Early Childhood Education is critical to the success of children as they grow, and programs like Chesterfield Head Start, Prekindergarten, and, of course, our incredible elementary schools help create bright futures for young children across our county. Every year, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrates the Young Child to focus attention on the needs of young children and to highlight the programs that seek to address those needs. Here, NAEYC has compiled resources, including dozens of activities and articles, for how you can celebrate and uplift the Young Child, whether you are a parent, educator, or community member!
