Roll adjustment Modification
This month we had a really interesting challenge. One of our corrugated board customers had a problem with inaccurate adjustment on a machine. They needed to be able to accurately adjust the parallelism and gap width between two rollers. These rollers control the amount of glue used when manufacturing cardboard.
Previously they had used threaded rod with lock nuts, but this caused endless problems with the rolls not being exactly parallel which caused incorrect glue application and wastage.
After some internal discussion we came up with a solution that used an eccentric large gear in order to have the fine adjustment needed for the application. This large gear then meshed with a small gear to allow easy manual adjustment. Lastly a third gear was installed (in mesh) that allowed the position of the roller, once set, to be locked in place.
This required extensive modification to OEM parts, but our customer is extremely happy with our innovative solution. They have not had to reset the glue gap in over 3 weeks!
