Together with Rob from Tissington Motor Spares we have been machining and fabricating parts for this little project since 2014. After Rob won our Aquablast competition last month, it was the first time we got to see this special motor car in the flesh! Rob has done a fantastic job restoring and improving this classic Morris Minor, which is based on a car that Rob and his father raced in the 60's! We asked Rob to put together a paragraph on some of the build details, but believe us, this little car could fill its own Newsletter!
"Little Dog 2 is a 1957 Morris Minor '1000' 2-door saloon that has been resto-modified as a "street-legal concours classic race car". It is loosely based on its predecessor, Little Dog 1, which my dad and I raced in East London in the late 60's (1000cc class W). The drivetrain is all inline BMC A-Series i.e. Morris Marina 1.3 engine, MG Midget 1275 sccr gearbox, Morris Minor rear axle. Front suspension is standard Morris Minor '1000' with fully adjustable Armstrong lever arm dampers sourced from the USA. Rear suspension is fully adjustable trailing 3-link with Mumford link for lateral control. Brakes are Riley 1.5 drums with Lockheed servo. Wheels are Compomotive (alloy) or Aero Race Wheels (steel), 7J x 13 front and 8J x 13 rear. Tyres are Avon ZZS (dry) and Avon All Weather Historic wet/dry. With a fully tuned 1293cc race engine, Little Dog 2 is expected to lap ELGP and Killarney race circuits in times comparable to those achieved by Gordon Briggs in his W111 1000cc Broadspeed Anglia." - Rob T
