Hamilton Dental Designs
Happy Fall, HDD family!  As we flip the calendar into October, we can't help but notice that mums are out in full effect, football games have returned to TV, and pumpkin spice flavor is making an appearance on menus everywhere.  It just so happens that Fall is Dr. Gil's favorite season of the year.  We have much to update you on this month, so take a few minutes to read through our latest news.

October is National Dental Hygiene Month

This month we celebrate the work that dental hygienists do, especially our two fabulous hygienists Melissa T. and Melissa M., and we recognize the importance of good oral hygiene.  We've mentioned before that oral health has a big impact on overall wellness, so your oral hygiene routine is really quite important.  The American Dental Hygiene Association recommends focusing on these "Daily 4" practices: 1) brush twice a day, 2) floss once a day, 3) rinse with mouthwash, and 4) chew sugar-free gum.  You should also have your teeth professionally cleaned at least every six months (more often if instructed by your dentist or hygienist).  If you're overdue for your cleaning and exam, make an appointment today and we'll be happy to go over some specific hygiene techniques for you so that your mouth stays in optimal condition.

A Better Clean

To help keep your oral hygiene on track, we wanted to remind you that we have Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart brushes available at HDD.  As with any power toothbrush, these brushes are significantly more effective at removing plaque and bacteria from your teeth than any manual device.  Even better, they require less effort to achieve an optimal clean, and they even supply feedback while you're brushing.  The brush communicates with the Sonicare app (for Apple OS or Android OS) to analyze your brushing technique and monitor when brush heads should be replaced.  We have one of these incredible brushes on display at the office, and they are available to order all year long.  See how our price compares with some local retailers:

Costco: $199.99
Amazon $219.99
Target $239.99
Bed Bath and Beyond $269.99

HDD: $180.00 (plus a mail-in $20 rebate!)

Keep an eye out for our annual Toothbrush Tuesday event for even more savings!

Think Pink!

This month we also want to highlight breast cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death among women.  Statistics show that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.  The good news is that 98% of breast cancer patients survive when diagnosed early.  After the age of 40, women should begin talking to their doctor about their risk factors and when to start mammograms.  If you fall into this category or someone you know does, consider taking a proactive approach this month.  You can also join many in support of research for breast cancer and get more information at the annual Making Strides in the Lehigh Valley walk on October 27th in Bethlehem.

Land Ho!

While the idea that Christopher Columbus landed in the United States at the end of his famous voyage in 1492 has been debunked, he is still recognized and celebrated as the first to arrive from Europe in the "New World."  This year Columbus Day falls on Monday, October 8th and all federal businesses and many others will be closed in observance.  HDD will be closed, but will reopen with normal hours on Tuesday, October 9th at 9am.
