In 2015, North Simcoe Victim Services partnered with local police services to participate in Operation Northern Spotlight, a national program that works to identify individuals believed to be at high risk of being trafficked. NSVS supports these victims by providing caring and practical assistance followed by helping victims access education, housing or counselling services. To help provide immediate care, a Human Trafficking Victim Support Kit has been developed, which contains a variety of essential items, such as clothing and toiletries, shown above by Sue, NSVS Client Services Coordinator.
In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violene Against Women on November 25; and the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on December 6; NSVS has launched a fundraising campaign to support the purchase of these Kits. While NSVS is funded through the Ministry of the Attorney General, the organization relies on fundraising and community donations to support the resources that contribute to providing the valuable and practical assistance that clients need.
