Thank you! Fundraising Campaign Supports Victims

As we conclude Human Trafficking Awareness Month (January), we are happy to report the success of our Human Trafficking Support Kit fundraising campaign. Thanks to our generous supporters, we raised enough funds and in-kind donations to put together ten brand new Support Kits for victims of human trafficking. "These kits help us to build a rapport with those who may be ready to leave their situations. They help us let them know that there are people out there who care and are willing to help," explains Frances Yarbrough, NSVS Executive Director. Meet our new team member
Amanda VanBilsen has joined the NSVS staff team as a field placement student. She is enrolled at Lakehead University in the post-graduate Honours Bachelor of Social Work program and will be with NSVS until the summer. Amanda describes her experience so far as "amazing!" "I am getting so much experience with so many different programs. I am really getting to know my community and its resources – which is exactly what I was hoping for." Amanda hopes to work in the community in the areas of Emergency Management Systems and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder support – possibly in research related to the effect of PTSD on family members and survivors. Welcome to the team, Amanda!
Training for New Volunteers
Training for new volunteers begins on March 19
This is an opportunity for people to join our outstanding team of volunteers. If you are interested, or know someone who is, they have until March 9 to apply for the next training program. Volunteers joining the organization this year will learn, among other topics, how the community is being impacted by current mental health concerns and the opioid crisis. Training begins on March 19 and runs for seven weeks. Learn more and apply here.
