20 Years! 20 New Volunteers!
Welcome to our new volunteers!
We have achieved our 20th Anniversary goal and are thrilled to welcome a full class of 20 new volunteers.  The recruits began their training on March 18 at our new training location – thank you to the Sundial Lakeview Retirement Residence for the use of this beautiful facility.
We also thank our many guest speakers, with a special shout-out to Mr. Barath's Georgian College students and to Ross and his team at Camp Couchiching for hosting and leading our team activities on March 30.
Volunteer Info Night & Open House attracts a full house
In recognition of our 20th Anniversary, we held a special Open House for volunteers in February at Fire Station One in Orillia. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated, with special thanks to our speakers: NSVS volunteers TaraSheila and Mandy; and Bailey, Leanne and Alec from the OPP.
Congratulations to the winners of our gift package draw (for those who brought a guest to the event) – new volunteer Hillary and current volunteer Doreen.

In the Community
Labour Human Trafficking Investigation and Rescue
NSVS was part of a recent investigation and rescue of over 40 victims of labour trafficking in Barrie. During the rescue, which took place in February, Executive Director Frances Yarbrough and NSVS volunteers provided victim assistance through the Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP) to cover basic necessities and relocation expenses. NSVS volunteers Sheila and Bob played a critical role with their Spanish speaking skills. "We are also so appreciative of the assistance from the Salvation Army, who provided food and clothing," said Frances. Special thanks to volunteers Ron and Marilyn VanDeursen, Gail and Norm Larievere, Loriann and Kevin Metcalf and Cal Lander from Orillia.
Team "Orillia OPP and Victim Services" raise over $2,000!
Congratulations to NSVS staff and volunteers who joined OPP Mental Health Coordinator Mike Kitchen to participate in the Coldest Night of the Year. They raised a total of $2,051 in support of The Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and Shelter!
Thank you!
Community Foundation Funding Support
On behalf of the NSVS Board of Directors, board chair Catherine McCullough and board member Dave Baker proudly accepted a donation from Cody Koesdibyo representing the designated Orillia Volunteer Firefighters Community Disaster Relief Fund of the Community Foundation of Orillia & Area. A generous donation from the Carol Ivey Victim Crisis Service Fund was also gratefully received at the funding announcement event, held at St. Paul's Centre on March 22.
