Worry Box Workshop
Date: January 5th, 2021

Adults often say, “I wish I could be a kid again”, but if you really think about it, it’s difficult being a child! So much happens around them, most of it they don’t understand. They are learning to develop relationships, they are learning new skills, and they are managing emotions that most of the time they can’t identify or talk about. 2020 has been extremely difficult for children. So many changes have occurred and this has created many worries for children.
In this workshop, Dr. Elena Merenda and the children are going to make worry boxes and the children will have an opportunity to talk about some of the things that worry them. Dr. Merenda will help the children to understand why we develop worries, what happens inside of our bodies when we worry, and what we can do to bring ourselves back to homeostasis.

Kids Yoga Class
Date: January 5th, 2021
Time: 6:30pm-7:30pm

Cost: $25 + tax/child

Join Dr. Elena Merenda for a Kids Yoga Class.
Dr. Merenda will begin the class with a story called, “The Way I Feel”. This story helps children recognize and express emotions-even the difficult ones. She will take them through a 15-20 minute yoga flow, incorporating some breathing techniques they can use when they are experiencing challenging emotions. We will close the yoga flow with a 2 minute meditation. They will end the class with a craft called
“My Feelings Tree”.
What to bring:
Yoga mats are not mandatory, but they are highly recommended for safety.
Grip socks are also an option.
Blanket and pillow if they’d like to use it for the meditation

Kids Yoga Class

Join Dr. Elena Merenda for a Kids Yoga Class.
This yoga class will begin with a story called, “The Invisible String”. The story teaches children that no matter what happens in life, no matter what changes occur, we are always bound to those we love with an invisible string. Your children will have an opportunity to participate in a play-based activity where they will reflect on what it means to be bound to those we love with an invisible string. This activity will provide children with the tools to develop resiliency and learn to cope during difficult life experiencing- because the truth is, we all have those! Dr. Merenda will teach the children a few simple yoga positions and breathing techniques that encourage strength and coping. We will end the workshop with a meditation.
What to bring:
Yoga mats are not mandatory, but they are highly recommended for safety. Grip socks are also an option.

Calming Kit Workshop

A calming kit contains visuals and tools to help children cope with their emotions during difficult times in a positive and safe way. These tools can empower children to independently resolve conflicts, self-regulate, and manage difficult emotions. Ideally, a calming kit should be used to help children identify, regulate and communicate emotions before any outburst; however, it can also be used to help de-escalate tantrums and overwhelming feelings.
Each child’s calming kit will include:
Lavender scented play-doh
An emotional regulation chart with coping strategies
A calming strategy ring
During the workshop we will make the following items to add to your kit:
Stress ball
Glitter calming jar
Rain stick

Join Dr. Elena Merenda for 2 day Children’s Grief Workshop.
Grief is messy. It’s a multitasking emotion that we don’t ever move on from. Instead, we have to learn to move forward with it. This is especially true for children because children’s grief is often overlooked.
This two day workshop is designed to help parents and educators understand children’s grief; specifically, what children’s grief looks like, how children’s development is impacted, myths and misconceptions about children’s grief, and the role of the parent and educator in supporting children through the grieving process.
This workshop is very practical and hands-on. Participants will engage in many play-based activities that can be incorporated at home and in the classroom. This includes art, storytelling, mindfulness, mediation, and yoga. All materials will be provided.
Space is limited. Only 9 spots to register!
All participants will be required to complete a COVID-Waiver on the day of the event.

Join Dr. Elena Merenda for a Dream Catchers Workshop.
The dreamcatcher is used to protect people from nightmares and bad dreams. The charm is usually hung above children’s cradles or beds, or on the window in the child’s bedroom. The dreamcatcher acts like a spider’s web by trapping bad dreams and allowing the good ones to filter through. The sunlight hits the dreamcatcher and destroys the bad dreams, while the good dreams filter down through the feathers to the child. Dreamcatchers are also considered apotropaic charms that provide protection for children from any evil.
In this workshop, children will make their own dreamcatchers for their bedrooms.

DIY Worry Doll Workshop

Worry Dolls are hand-made in Guatemala. Legend has it, that if children tell their doll their worries before bed, and place the doll under their pillows at night, the doll will carry their worries until morning so that children can have a good night’s sleep.
Worry Dolls also make great companions for children who have social anxiety and/or anxiety and who may like to carry their dolls with them to schools, new settings, doctor’s appointments, etc.
In this workshop, children will make their own Worry Doll.

Dr. Merenda will teach them a few simple yoga positions and breathing techniques that encourage self-awareness and self-love because when we are aware and when we love ourselves, we are better able to share that love with others. They will end the workshop with a meditation.
