🌻Summer In Harrogate & Knaresborough🌞

It’s been a rather odd year so far and I don’t know about you, but here at Harrogate Mumbler we are struggling to remember what day it is, let alone what month we are in!
How can it be the Summer Holidays already?!

Despite this, we have lots of ideas on how to keep those mini-mumblers entertained over the next 7 weeks. Some schools aren't back until the second week in September due to teacher training so be sure to check with yours!

But first, drum roll please.........

On to the Summer Holidays...

It's a bumper issue, so make yourself a brew, find a comfy spot to sit and enjoy reading about what summer 2020 has in store 😊

We understand that things might be a bit different this summer. Please check before you travel and pre-booking is highly recommended. There is (as ever) loads more on our Summer Holiday's School Holidays page and our Daily Events Calendar

So while we try to come out of lockdown whilst still staying safe, let's hope that the rain stops, the sun shines & we can all make the most of the Summer!

End of Year Reflection – Coppice Valley Primary School

The end of the school year is usually a time for leavers’ assemblies and plays, for bundling up work to take home and frantically emptying out the lost property box.

But this year has been unlike all others. Corona has caused our children to miss out on weeks of school – of learning, fun, friendships and milestone experiences that come from being part of a school. Adjusting for these losses is something that everyone working in education is planning for. I’ve spent weeks thinking through the consequences of school closure. I’ve been evaluating the decisions I’ve made during the school closure, on the things I’ve got wrong and right. Reflecting on the last few months since the pandemic, I’ve realised that from the challenges it created we’ve learned an awful lot about ourselves as a school. Now more than ever, we know what is important to us and what really matters. read more here
Holidays on Lockdown

Even though we can now go abroad on holiday, many of us have already settled to the idea of staying in Great Britain and at home.
This doesn't mean you have to give up on the idea of a break however.

With this in mind, we’ve put our heads together to come up with some brilliant staycation ideas!
  • Camping
  • Festivals
  • Virtual Trips
  • Beach vibes in the Garden
  • Skiing in the Garden

Camping in Yorkshire

The sun is out, the sky is blue - you can almost imagine yourself pitching the tent and firing up the BBQ!

This year's camping season will be a little different though, and the rules surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic mean sites have had to change some of their procedures to keep in line with Government advice.

But there is no reason why it should spoil your fun. Check out our blog here for more information on what some Yorkshire Campsites are doing when they reopen, and some ideas for things you can do yourself too.

Have a great time and don't forget to let us know how you get on!
Here are a few more blogs we think you might like*,
so grab a fresh brew (and maybe a biscuit), pull up a chair and have a read.

Creative Summer School

ACTAcademy’s Creative Summer School is back, ready to save your summer!

This year we are running our ACTAcademy Summer School throughout July and August to give children a taste of some sort of normality. Our Summer School will allow your children to enjoy fun activities, make new friends, and nurture the skills that they have been unable to exercise during their time stuck at home, all within the safe walls of our fully Oftsed-registered building and private studios, and abiding by strict government Covid-19 guidelines.

Children can look forward to a week of fun, creativity and education where no day is the same! Our passionate DBS-checked teachers will lead your children on an adventure of discovery, development and joy over the week with the performing and creative arts at the core of our curriculum. Our Summer School is suitable for any child with any interests, currently at Primary School.

You can see it below – we have one all filled out for you (with a few spaces for you to add in your favourite things) and also a blank version so you can plan your own fun summer.

The idea is to print it out, stick it on the fridge and complete all the activities, colouring them in as you go!

Whatever you do, we hope you and the mini mumblers have fun and make the most of our wonderful town at this time of year 😊

Have you ever dreamt of stepping into an utterly enchanted realm?
Deep in the captivating woodland of Mother Shipton’s, filled with fairy rings
and secret doorways, pixies are waiting to play!

Tread carefully through the land of the woodland people and keep your eyes peeled as you follow the trail to see their tiny houses. Play in the Adventure Playground like real pixie folk, dance like a fluttering fairy and discover the secrets of forest folklore.

Mother Shipton’s is an outdoor attraction with continual movement of people through the mile-long park, with plenty of outdoor seating and space for visitors to enjoy a picnic;
ice creams and hot drinks are also available.

Dogs are welcome in the park for a picturesque mile-long walk along the River Nidd.
Toilets are open and safety measures, including signage and screens, are in place.

There’s something for everyone with the Cave, Petrifying Well,
Adventure Playground and Museum & Gift Shop.

Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal, National Trust

Covid-19 Update:

Reopening on Monday 8 June. To help you have a safe visit, they’re asking everyone to book in advance to access the abbey and water garden.
Please note, Studley Car Park will remain closed.

Take part in your biggest ever game of hide and seek on your visit to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Hide in all corners of the large abbey ruins before following the river to the water garden. Race around the moon ponds, see the swans swimming and discover the winding dark tunnel. Emerge from the tunnel to find three fun buildings called follies along this woodland path.

Be sure to have a playground adventure.
There are things to wobble along, jump over and climb on…you’ll find a wooden abbey, a woodland house, scramble nets and posts, swings, fireman’s poles, a slide, a roundabout, a gigantic rope bridge and a huge zip wire for the most daring adventurers of all.

There’s lots to do but don’t worry if you can’t fit it all in this time – we’ll be here another day! Become a member on your first visit and come back for free as many times as you like. Plus, get the feel-goods about it as every time you scan your membership card, you’re contributing towards the essential conservation work we do.
