January flew by so fast that I completely forgot to write a newsletter! Yikes!

This piece is the highlight of my January ceramic production. It is the first of a series of intricately carved vessels that should see the light over the next while. I hope you like it!

Here is some detail;

I spent some time in January drawing friends, all wearing my wildly patterned kimono. I concentrated on the folds and pattern distortions of the garment and how the sitter’s personality comes through in this. As you can see, they were often joined by some or another dog, who did not understand the brief and moved around a lot. It is an interesting exercise to draw people in my house, in a pose that they feel comfortable with –usually both of us looking directly at one another, and to chat to them while I am drawing them: these elements are not usually part of a life drawing session. It has added an intimacy to the drawings that I really like. Each drawing is A1 (594 x 841mm) and done in charcoal, pastel or ink on 300g Munken Pure. This is an ever evolving and ongoing project. Let me know if you want to be part of it!

This year I will be offering corporate and private group ceramic workshops for team building, de-stressing and as a fantastic (and healthy) alternative to the usual business cocktail mixers. It is also a great way to treat clients or a group of friends and to get to know one another better while the brain is involved in some clay work. I can comforatbly accommodate 8 participants and the content of each workshop can be designed to suit the interests of the specific group. Please contact me if you are interested in this.

My cook book, EAT YOUR WORDS, is a finalist in the Gourmand Awards for the best cookbooks of the year, to be announced in May. I am thrilled! If you haven’t got a copy yet, it is available from most good bookstores or online from Takealot.
