BIG DREAMS START YOUNG!

CRAVENBY COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL’S
YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS ARE FARMING
THEIR WAY TO SUCCESS

Our 2017 Grand Finale winners, Cravenby Comprehensive School in Elsies River, is farming their way to entrepreneurial success.  Since walking away as the SA Teen Entrepreneur winners last year, their food farming project at their school has just grown (if you pardon the pun!) from strength to strength.  In fact, their food garden has expanded to the extent that their school’s soup kitchen no longer needs to purchase fresh produce; all vegetables are obtained from their garden.

Their business has earlier this month received a further boost through the donation of a hydroponics unit from one of our Trustees, Paul Baines.  The hydroponics unit will enable the young learners to grow certain fresh products using a nutrient-rich solution rather than soil.

Our sincere appreciation goes to Paul!

Cravenby requires support with the digging of a borehole for their garden.  If anyone wishes to support them in this regard, please do make contact with us!

We are proud of you Cravenby Comprehensive’s Entrepreneur Society!  Thank you also to the Champion Teacher, Mr Zinhanga – a farmer himself, for your guidance and support to our young moguls.

WE’VE GOT WHEELS!

Thanks to a generous donation from our trustee, Paul Baines, we now have a company car!  Having a car will mean that we will be able to visit more Entrepreneur Societies per week than we have been able to relying on public transport.  As you can imagine, Nadia has had a permanent smile since the car has arrived; she is now able to be more directly involved in supporting our young entrepreneurs with the development of their business plans and ideas.

Thank you once again, Paul.  Your support to us has been invaluable.

OUR FIRST AWAKEN THE GIANT FOR 2018; WHAT A MORNING!

Our first Awaken the Giant motivational event for this year took place on Saturday, May 19th and was jam-packed with motivation, good humour, and out-and-out fun!  The venue at the Southern Sun Cape Sun in the centre of the City, as well as the refreshments, were kindly provided by the hotel’s newly-appointed General Manager, Ayanda Mazibuko.  Ayanda was also our guest speaker for the morning and judging by the queue of learners who lined up after the event to extract more pearls of wisdom from him, he was clearly a hit!

We also received a surprise visit from Sinovuyo Mankayi, the junior Mayor of the City of Cape Town.  Judging by his confidence, eloquence, and passion, our City will certainly be in good hands when he one day dons the Mayoral Chain.

Simba Zingoni and his business partner Sam Burditt are two young, innovative business people who presented their business, called Revolar, to the audience.

A very special thank you to Priscilla Urquhart from Coca Cola Peninsula Beverages for sponsoring 200ml Coca-Cola World Cup soft drink cans, as well as learner transport to and from the event.

Thank you to our learners and Teacher Champions from Saxonsea Primary School, Cravenby Comprehensive School, Goodwood College, Cedar High School, Oude Molen Technical High School, Ikamvalethu High School, and Leap School for spending the morning with us.

LISTEN UP!

Promoting the work that we do by means of free editorial opportunities on radio and in print remains an important aspect of our Marketing campaign.  Here is an interview which we did on Cape Talk radio recently:

A MEETING OF ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDS

We recently participated in an interview at Bush Radio with our peers in the entrepreneurial space.  The purpose of the interview was to promote entrepreneurship, to guide those taking their first steps towards starting their own businesses, and to encourage and motivate those who have already taken the leap.  It was a wonderful opportunity for Teen Entrepreneur to learn from organisations such as Harambe, Dream Catchers, and others, and to share our experiences and the valuable lessons we have learnt since we have started running our various programmes.

DATES TO DIARISE

Our next Awaken the Giant in You motivational event will take place on Saturday, August 18 from 08:30 to around midday.  Do pencil in the date in the meantime.  Venue and other details are to follow.

We have needed to postpone our #TeenBOSS Camp, which was scheduled for the upcoming June holidays, and will advise as soon as we’ve managed to confirm a new date.  Watch this space!
