Process-Based Hydrological Modelling
Fall 2020
Due to concerns related to Covid-19, this course will be offered online during the Fall term (9:00-11:50am on Tuesdays, September-December 2020). In subsequent years the course will be offered as a field school at the Barrier Lake Field Station and will include logistics fees.

🆕 New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) 2020 Exploration
In the near future NFRF-Exploration applications will be added to the USask grants repository under the SSHRC heading, though all three agencies are encompassed within the program, administered by the Tri-Agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS) housed within SSHRC.
Internal deadlines: the RASI internal deadline remains set at 5 business days prior to the external agency deadline. As both the Notice of Intent (NOI) and Full Application stages are submitted institutionally, applications must be received through UnivRS by the follow dates:
1. NOI: August 11, 2020 (Submitted in Convergence Portal August 18, 2020)
2. Full Application: October 13, 2020 (Submitted in Convergence Portal October 20, 2020)

Commonwealth Scholarship
These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for Education in conjunction with UK universities to support world class research and to contribute to UK higher education and research to help sustain international recognition of the UK higher education system and for the benefit of wider society. The CSC does not offer scholarships to candidates from high income Commonwealth countries who have already started their PhD study in the UK.

2020-21 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) competition
Launched by the Vanier-Banting Secretariat, this program offers funding for individuals with PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree completion between September 15, 2017 and September 30, 2021 (inclusively) and is open to both Canadian and international researchers.
Value & duration
- $70,000 per year (taxable)
- 2 years (non-renewable)
Process to apply
Nominations must be endorsed by the University of Saskatchewan and will be reviewed internally throughout the application development process to determine suitability for final submission to the Vanier-Banting Secretariat. The University of Saskatchewan timeline.
Key dates
- July 3, 2020 – 8:00 am (CST): Deadline for submission of U of S Notification of Intent (NOI). Please see the attached NOI form for details as well as the full competition timeline. Nominees will be notified by July 17th if they have been selected to proceed to the full application stage.
- August 12, 2020 – 8:00 am (CST): Deadline for submission of full application for internal review and recommendation. Nominees will be notified by August 24th if their application is suitable for submission to the national competition.
- October 1, 2020 – 8:00am (EDT): Deadline for submission to the Vanier-Banting Secretariat. Competition results are expected in mid-February 2020.

Eligibility changes to NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships program
NSERC is removing the one-per-lifetime restriction on applications to the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) program. For the 2021 competition year (application deadline October 19, 2020), unsuccessful applicants from previous competitions will be able to apply again, provided they still meet all other eligibility criteria.

GWF PhD Excellence Scholarships
The entrance scholarship is offered to students who have outstanding academic records, show research promise, have exceptional communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities, and at the time of application have not yet accepted or registered for a PhD program at University of Saskatchewan.

Notification of intent to apply for a Discovery Grant – 2021 competition
The Discovery Grants Program assists in:
- promoting and maintaining a diversified base of high-quality research capability in the natural sciences and engineering in Canadian universities;
- fostering research excellence;
- providing a stimulating environment for research training.
The University of Saskatchewan encourages all Discovery Grant applicants to refer to the following online resources that may be useful for your next Discovery Grant application:
Wednesday, July 15th: Submit Intention to Apply/Request for Internal Review Form (attached) for NSERC DG and RTI to grant.review@usask.ca indicating ‘Lastname NSERC DG/RTI’ in the subject heading. We recommend that DG applicants ask their internal reviewers to also provide feedback on their RTI application (if applying for RTI). We would like to ask all DG and RTI applicants to submit this form.
Notification of intent to apply (NOI) deadline date: August 4, 2020, 8:00 p.m. (ET). NSERC will not accept an NOI after the deadline date.

University of Saskatchewan Publication Fund
The Publications Fund offers modest support towards scholarly and creative works published by University of Saskatchewan faculty. A faculty member can submit one request in either of the following categories:
• up to $1,500 to assist in Publishing costs;
• up to $1,500 for a formal Book Publication Subvention; or
• up to $1,500 for Other Scholarly and Artistic Works as defined in the guidelines.
