Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to share news of a new Monash Warwick equity bursary which has just been awarded to ten Warwick students from groups which are under-represented in higher education, to study abroad at Monash University.

We welcome applications to the next round of calls for the Catalyst Fund, Accelerator Fund and Education Fund. All three calls will be closing on Sunday 28th October 2018.

The Student-led Activity Fund and the Alliance Visiting Educators Scheme remain open.

Monash Warwick equity bursary for Warwick students to study at Monash

The Monash Warwick Alliance offers students the opportunity to experience studying at an overseas institution with strong links to their existing university. The uncapped exchange agreement between the two institutions helps to ensure that those who want a mobility experience can have one. This UK academic year 132 predominantly undergraduate students from Warwick chose to study at Monash’s campuses in Australia and Malaysia.

When considering higher education, the ability to access a learning suite that extends well beyond the traditional expectations of the classroom is high on the agenda for most. Furthermore, the positive impact on student employability of international student mobility is well known and is of particular significance to students from groups which are under-represented in Higher Education

However, despite this, the data indicates that these groups are less likely than their peers to participate in mobility. There are multiple reasons for this, both financial and non-financial, but some of these barriers to participation fall within the capacity of universities to address. This is why the University of Warwick is now providing bursaries through the Alliance to increase participation from under-represented groups in study abroad opportunities at Monash University.

ICUR 2018: 25-26 September 2018

Supported by the Monash Warwick Alliance, the International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) is an exciting event where research is shared on a global platform across five continents, by undergraduates involved in a hugely diverse range of projects.

Through ICUR, students located in the UK, Australia, the USA, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and South Africa communicate with each other in a single 48-hour forum, without having to leave their home institution. The latest in high-definition video conferencing technology enables these students to disseminate their research globally, while side-stepping the costs, environmental impacts, and mobility issues that travel can create.

ICUR is a unique platform that showcases the work of some of the world’s best undergraduate researchers from all disciplines; building confidence, skills and networks. Students present their research in joint sessions with their peers from other countries, interacting with fellow presenters and audience through video-links and social media.

You are very welcome to join a session of ICUR at your home institution, staff are welcome to drop in at any time. The full ICUR program is available online here.
