A tale I heard

Writer and performer Kate Tempest on how writing about bleak topics doesn't have to be seen as negative:

“The whole thing is an exercise in optimism, because it’s a creative act. The thing that drives you might be painful, but the minute it becomes a creative act, it becomes about love. It’s such a beautiful and generous practice to be able to write or perform. It’s just pure love.”

A tale I wrote

A stranger's hand through your hair is odd.
Twenty minutes is never long enough
to get used to it. You must sit and grin

as the curls you've known for years fall
like the rain you force yourself to talk about.
It's difficult to have a conversation

when half your head is on the floor.
