Agricultural Leadership Program
Class XVII Update

Class XVII of the Agricultural Leadership Program (ALP) was scheduled to begin on May 12, 2020 in Hilo, Hawai‘i. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 crisis, the beginning of Class XVII has been postponed. We are pleased to announce that we received a great response to our call for applications and our ALP Selection Committee completed interviews and selected candidates in late March. Once we are able to establish a new schedule and confirm candidate participation, we will announce Class XVII. We are looking forward to introducing you to our new ALP ohana and we recognize that now more than ever we need strong ag leaders. In the meantime, we are working hard on the planning for the upcoming class. If you'd like to get involved, please read below for how you can be an ALP Supporter.

Continue your Commitment
to Hawai‘i Agriculture
Supporting Hawai‘i agriculture is more important than ever. Many groups are working together to support farmers and get food to communities. Here are a few helpful resources for accessing local food:

Local Seeds for Local Needs

The Hawai’i Seed Growers Network is a statewide group of artisanal farmers that have worked together for the past 5 years to grow, develop, and bring high quality, locally grown and adapted seed to Hawai‘i’s gardeners and market farmers. In these unprecedented times, greater food security is a priority and many families are thinking about starting home gardens. Two members of Hawai’i Growers Seed Network and long-time home gardeners, Glenn Teves and Nancy Redfeather, have collaborated on a simple blog on “Getting Started Building a Home Garden”  in Hawai’i. Please forward to anyone you know who is thinking about starting a home garden.

CTAHR extension agents have created a short COVID-19 Agriculture needs assessment focusing on finding out the immediate needs of the agriculture industry in the state. This information will be used to inform extension agents throughout the state about the current needs of producers. The survey should only take 5-10 minutes to complete, and your answers will remain confidential. Thank you for your time!

COVID-19 Respond with Aloha Effort
Do you have time to volunteer or do you need volunteers? The COVID-19 Respond with Aloha effort is connecting community organizations with individuals wishing to volunteer, along with additional resource listings. The goal is to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 while supporting community efforts, as long as it safe to do so. Find out more.
