A word from the Regional Executive

Hi all,

Hi all,
Unfortunate weather and lake ice conditions have forced us to cancel our last two RallyCross events due to safety concerns. The total ice thickness is more than adequate, but the upper layers have been weakened by overflow and snowfall, which could then cause damage to cars if driven on the partially frozen upper layers. Working together with the Alaska Sports Car Lions Club for track maintenance, we should be good to go for our next event on March 9!
On a more general note, we’re going to drop our regular newsletter publications down to about quarterly. Don’t worry, we’ll still send out any important notices as needed, and you can always keep up with the latest news and info on our Facebook page.
See you on track,

-Kent Hamilton

Rallycross Report

Hey Rallycrossers! I’ll start this months’ update by saying sorry and the promise that better times are still to come. Unfortunately we have had to cancel the last 2 RallyCrosses due to unsafe conditions at Big Lake. To remedy this the Region is looking into sharing the cost with the Lions Sports Car Club to refresh/maintain the lake. It’s my hope that with this effort we will be able to hold the scheduled events March 9th and 23rd. What happens after then you ask? Well… March 21st we are on the schedule to petition a Conditional Use Permit from the City of Palmer. Once we secure that permit from the city (which the club was successful in the past) we will be holding RallyCrosses at the Alaska State Fairgrounds! Barring any complication we are hoping to maintain the every other Saturday event schedule right up to the beginning of Autocross season. This ALSO means after the conclusion of autocross season September we can start back up until the Lake is ready to play on. So with a little leg work on our part we should be providing you all a much fuller RallyCross Season. Thanks for sticking with us! And keep an eye out for details on our Public Hearing, we would love to have your support!!
