A Message from The Chancellor - Fr. Mike Ellis

Dear CACINA family,

By now you may know that I have been asked to assume the responsibilities of chancellor for our faith community. Fr. Joe Reynolds served faithfully in this capacity for many years and is missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with him, however briefly. May he and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. And as I begin to undertake new these tasks, I know I can count on the prayers of Fr. Joe and you, my sisters and brothers in CACINA, for your prayerful support.

In reflecting on how best to serve as chancellor, I find that I am continually drawn to the concept of also serving as a “cheerleader,” someone who, under the guidance of and in concert with our presiding bishop, can highlight occasions of celebration within our communion.

In furtherance of this goal, I recently had the privilege of worshipping at Bishop Tony Green’s parish church of St. John of God, where Fr. Vic Desantis was the homilist. In his meditation on the Gospel, Fr. Vic reminded us of all that we are tasked not just with preparing ourselves for the future return of Christ, but also of being alert to the many ways in which we may encounter Jesus today in the here and now. And as he was speaking, I was reminded of something that another “Fr. Vic” (in this case, Fr. Victor Ray) said in his homiletics class:  that we should prayerfully invite Jesus into the day’s headlines, ever mindful of his presence among us.

And as I sat there, I felt the connection within our little faith community.

And I thanked God for CACINA.

God’s peace,

Fr. Mike

St. Martin of Tours Update

St. Martin of Tours, St. Albans, Vermont, has been livestreaming Mass every Sunday since Pentecost.  In an attempt to engage the local community, God's people held an in-person Mass, "Mass on the Farm," complete with a potluck brunch on Sunday, July 31st.  Mother Barb Fichter and Fr. Mike Ellis concelebrated the Mass, and the voices of God's people were raised in praise, amidst God's beautiful tapestry of the northern Vermont mountains.

Sr. Linda Ritchie, OFS, of the Franciscans of the Sacred Journey, Safety Harbor, Florida, served as our lector for the Mass.  Everyone shared their culinary gifts by way of some delicious brunch treats, and the spirit of fellowship was felt all around.

Below are some photos from this very special day in the life of St. Martin of Tours Mission.

Christian Unity Gathering (CUG)

October 10-11, 2022

Virtual on Whova

Registration fee $25

The inspiration for this year's Christian Unity Gathering (CUG) theme, "The Challenge of Change: Serving a Never Changing Christ in An Ever-Changing World," arises from two passages of scripture:

I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth; do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 NRSVue; and

So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NRSVue.

Together, we will spring forth to do a new thing! Session topics will include Christian leadership in unchartered waters, the impact of trauma, responding to humanitarian crises, the future of faith formation, how to uproot racism/Christian nationalism/White supremacy, and how to deal with domestic unrest and dramatic change.

The annual event will be held virtually to make it easier to attend, provide scheduling flexibility, eliminate travel barriers, reduce the event’s carbon-footprint, and be more inclusive. The fee to attend on the Whova platform will be $25 per attendee. The recorded sessions will be available within Whova for viewing for a period after the event.

Register Now! We look forward to seeing you at CUG 2022!
