MEETINGS
For the safety of our community, we are conducting our meetings online until conditions permit us to resume assembling in person.
Monday   July 18th, 7 PM
Postcards!
The Targets, The Message, The Data & the POWER!

With the midterms approaching,
MAGA Extremists rushing to pass terrible laws and rulings,
& the January 6th Committee methodically & powerfully naming treason and traitors,

we would be excused for feeling like our heads are going to explode.

But, if you are reading this, you are already taking action.  And action is what helps us manage overwhelm
AND CHANGE THE WORLD.

One action that many of us are taking, is writing postcards to voters -helping them register, informing them about their rights, their candidates and how they, too, can use their voices and their votes in our democracy.

How effective is this strategy?
How are the targets chosen, the messages drafted?

Join Indivisible Northamapton-Swing Left WM
Monday, July 18th, 7pm EDT

as we hear from
Anna Martin, Postcard Program Manager for
Activate America (formerly Flip the West),
about the pragmatics & power of postcards!

PENNSYLVANIA!
Phone banks to flip PA

Every Thursday, 6-8pm on Zoom

Join like-minded activists from across the country on Thursday evenings, to help save democracy by expanding the Democratic electorate - and so electing more Pro-Choice, Pro-Democracy Democrats in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania!

Our elected officials can truly represent WE THE PEOPLE, and pass laws to codify our reproductive and civil rights.  They can unrig the Supreme Court by passing laws to enact term limits, increase the number of Justices, and enforce ethical standards for SCOTUS.

But only if we elect the politicians who will do just this.

We know that PA is a pivotal state, with an open, flippable U.S. Senate seat, an open governor's race we have to hold (as the governor has provided crucial vetoes on attempts by the GOP dominated legislature to pass terrible voting laws), and new, much fairer districts that make flipping 1 or both state houses a real possibility this year!

Every Thursday evening, 6-8pm, IN continues our partnership with 2 on-the-ground, powerful PA organizations:
  •  New Pennsylvania Project, modeled after Stacy Abrams' New Georgia Project, - where our calls are part of a unique, potentially game changing initiative to not only register new voters, but to make sure they actually get to vote!
  • Turn PA Blue, where we'll be focusing on statewide races - PA is 4 seats away from flipping the PA House (where every seat is up for election), and 12 seats away from flipping the PA Senate (where half the seats are up)!

Join us in calling PA voters to help expand the Pennsylvania electorate and turn this state BLUE!

Postcarding update….

We are wrapping up a successful campaign, Liberty and Justice for All, which had a goal of contradicting the right’s lies and fear mongering about Critical Race Theory.  Many thanks to Ellen Schwartz for her tireless distribution of hundreds of cards, and to all of you who participated!  The image and message was, for many of us, unusual and a bit outside of our comfort zone.  I will be sure to report the data, when available, as to the results of this approach.

Our next campaigns will return to urging support for Democratic candidates in PA and WI.  To receive the update/ link to sign up, contact Marta at levmartam@gmail.com.
Social Postcarding!
Sundays at 4 pm at
Easthampton River Valley Coop

GETTING OUT THE VOTE is crucial to winning elections, so we're writing postcards to voters in Swing States with a variety of messages, many urging them to make sure to vote this year. Sending postcards to voters--cost effective, eye-catching and personal--has been shown to be effective in motivating their participation in voting.

Ready to get out of the house and take the fight for Democracy outdoors???  Join the Post Corps EVERY SUNDAY, 4:00 PM at the picnic tables outside Easthampton River Valley Coop. to sit outside, schmooze with other Democracy Warriors and write postcards to reach out to swing voters. Contact Deb Friedman jwanddf@juno.com for more information.
VOTE FORWARD’S 2022 “BIG SEND” LETTER-WRITING CAMPAIGN IS IN FULL SWING

Vote Forward, a close ally of Swing Left, is in the midst of another “Big Send” get-out-the-vote letter campaign. IN-SLWM volunteers have already downloaded and prepared more than 5,000 letters that will go out to infrequent voters in key districts and states at the end of October. We can always use new volunteers. To learn more about how this works, click here. If you’re ready to sign up, click here.
Other Ways to Pitch In
BAR INSURRECTIONISTS FROM THE BALLOT
Sign the Petition

Enacted after the Civil War, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifies from public office any individual who has taken an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and then engages in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or gives aid or comfort to those who have.

By inciting a violent attack on Congress in an effort to prevent the certification of his own electoral defeat, Donald Trump engaged in insurrection and violated his oath of office. Free Speech For People and Our Revolution have teamed up to urge Secretaries of State and chief election officials across the country to follow the mandate of Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment and bar insurrectionists from any future ballot.

You can read more about it here, and add your name to their petition here.

Sign here to tell Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin to abide by Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and bar Trump from appearing on any future ballot in MA.

Join the Indivisible National Give No Ground Program

We need to go all-in to make sure we defend our democracy from MAGA radicals this November.

Whether it’s blocking gun reforms, gutting Roe v. Wade, or attacking LGBTQ+ kids, or gun safety, Republicans will continue to try to roll us back in time. We need to elect Democrats to lead us into the future.

Sign up with Indivisible National Give No Ground Program to join the team.

Another Way to Help Flip PA

From our friends at MA flip PA: Consider joining this at 8pm, after the IN-SLWM meeting, or simply donate and watch the recording later.

Join Together We Elect and MAFlipPA on Monday July 18th from 7-8:30 PM to meet must-defend Pennsylvania Congresspeople Matt Cartwright and Susan Wild and learn how we are working to re-elect them, and to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in this nearest swing state.

You’ll learn about specific actions you can take to help win these critical races and see samples of the ads you can help fund through our partner My Rural America to reach the voters who will help us hold these Congressional seats and win up and down the ballot.

And if you’d like to donate without joining us for the Zoom, you can do so here. All donors will receive tear sheets of the ads you’ve helped fund so you can see the impact you’ve had.

Sign up here to join us.

Onwards to victory in Pennsylvania this fall!
Bob Scheier and Ann Eldridge, MAFlipPA

JOIN THE IN-SLWM FUNDRAISER FOR KEY RACES & GRASSROOTS GROUPS

First, an update on our fundraiser for Swing Left’s National Impact Fund and Movement Voter Project’s Black-Led Organizing Fund. Several recent contributions, plus our intrepid team of monthly donors, have brought our total amount raised to more than $22,000! If you’ve been considering a donation, now is the time – our $30,000 goal is within shouting distance, if we shout really loudly! Click here to give to the Swing Left fund. Click here to give to the MVP fund. Or click here to learn more about each of these funds.

If you’re not sure about whether or where to give, join us on Monday, August 1, at 7pm on Zoom for a conversation about strategic donating. By that we mean thinking about the most effective way to direct our giving for the fall elections. We’re pleased to have Bria Gambrell, Swing Left Regional Organizing Coordinator for New England, and Jane Lerner, Donor Advisor at Movement Voter Project, speaking about their organizations’ funds and the strategies behind them. Come learn more about why funds like these are good strategic choices, and then join me and many others in supporting our current fundraiser.

Congress Can and Must Reform the Extreme Court - By Larry Pareles

The U.S. Supreme Court just finished its most consequential term in decades. Its new extremist majority is out of control and is preparing to take away even more of our rights and freedoms. In a single year, six justices ended womens’ right to their personal freedom to make critical and personal decisions about their own reproductive care, ended states’ rights to make sensible gun rules, limited the ability of the EPA to reduce air pollution, and eroded the boundary between church and state. They have done this by ignoring past precedent and offering spurious “originalist” theory to justify their actions. These actions are radical and very unpopular, and seriously threaten Americans’ freedoms. This extreme Court is driving our country towards dictatorship and social upheaval.
