It's 2023, y'all!
I wish I was genuinely excited about starting a new year, but my concept of time is already so warped that trying to make sense of it through a Gregorian calendar feels arbitrary and alien. Like... what even is time?! I'm somehow already 36 weeks pregnant and I've whizzed through yet another pregnancy (maybe for the last time... maybe not...?). Before I know it, I'll be living with and responsible for a bunch of teenagers who see me as nothing more than an embarrassing roommate. 😩 My whole life is flashing before my eyes... 🙈
For as long as I can remember, I've been "meeting" elders who've recounted stories of us having already met before, back when I was only thiiis big. I have no memory of ever meeting them, of course, and they know this, so we all just laugh about how the time has passed. But now, whenever we hang out with our friends and same-aged peers, I see we're making the same memories they'll be recounting to my kids after decades have come and gone, turning them into those same friendly elders. It's all very trippy.
Similarly, every time my friends and I talk about the complicated relationships we have with our siblings or parents, it hits me that I have this very big job ahead of me. I've been thinking long and hard about how we're shaping these deep-rooted, lifelong relationships for other humans, and we better not f*ck it up! [*looks around to see if I'm allowed to swear in my own newsletter* 👀]
Suffice to say, the winter season mixed with these pregnancy hormones are making quite the cocktail for me feelings wise! 😂 And all the while, I try to stay present and think about how all of us are in a different place in our life's story. So many beginnings, middles, and ends happening all at once, all the time!
For those of you who are more concerned about starting a different kind of chapter in your life –– perhaps one relating to your career –– I'm happy to assure you that yes, companies are hiring! In fact, I'm kicking the new year off by introducing you to the newest team on Key Values: Ribbon Health! And how timely...
I was literally trying (and failing...) to find an in-network acupuncturist just yesterday, and lamenting about how broken the U.S. healthcare system is. It shouldn't be this hard to access care, and it goes from inconvenient to dire when the medical need is urgent. (Because I know getting acupuncture isn't a big deal.) Regardless of how serious it is though, this is where Ribbon comes in. They're building modern APIs that provide accurate data on doctors, which includes detailed information on accepted insurance plans, cost and quality of care delivered, demographics, and affiliated locations –– all the obvious and necessary stuff. 🙌
In terms of enthusiasm in putting their Key Values profile together, overall team participation and involvement, and use of concrete examples, I give Ribbon an A+++. I love when a team can speak openly about the mistakes they've made (i.e. ones that result in $30k in AWS costs...) because it shows confidence in the safeguards they've built to prevent repeated mistakes. And Ribbon does just that. I hope y'all read their profile and get to know them a little more!
And now for the main event:

Ribbon Health (profile) 📍 New York City or Remote (US)
Provide relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations on a case-by-case basis.
Ribbon Health is a data platform that simplifies the healthcare system. While ownership is a huge priority at Ribbon, it's impossible to work in a silo. They pull data from thousands of different sources and the technologies they use are inherently intertwined, so in order to aggregate scheduling data (for example), they rely on collaboration and teamwork. They're remote-friendly, 20% of their team are parents, and since closing a $43.5M Series B at the end of 2021, they're eagerly hiring!

Sibi (profile) 📍 Remote (US)
Provides relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations.
Sibi connects manufacturers, contractors, and homeowners directly on one platform to simplify the process of building and improving a property. We're in the middle of updating their profile since they've hired 20+ people in the last year, but they're still who they've always been at their core: a highly collaborative, self-funded company that takes their work seriously, but not themselves too seriously. [*chef's kiss*]

Stytch (profile) 📍 San Francisco, New York City, or Remote (US)
Provides relocation support. May sponsor work authorizations.
Stytch is building a developer platform for passwordless authentication. They welcome self-taught engineers and more than half of their engineering, product, and design team managers are women. With ChatGPT taking the internet (and world!) by storm, we're likely going to see more fraudsters attacking applications that leverage AI APIs, but the team at Stytch is already on top of it. Sphinx Defense (profile) 📍 Remote (US)
Does not provide relocation support. Does not sponsor work authorizations.
Sphinx is building communications infrastructure to enable satellite operators to securely utilize antenna networks and maneuver satellites in real-time. As the number of satellites orbiting earth grows exponentially, they're building an entirely new platform, which means there’s no rulebook or "one right way" to execute. To that end, they need to hire motivated, self-starting engineers to help drive their roadmap.

Curai (profile) 📍 Remote (US)
Does not provide relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations.
Curai leverages machine learning to help doctors work more effectively in a virtual primary care setting. Many of their team members have diverse backgrounds, which lends to their collaborative and multidisciplinary culture. For instance, Jen Jen is a data scientist and pediatric pulmonologist working as a PM, and Mahnoor (a lead engineer) spent a year working in the ER before joining Curai. What a team. 👏

|
Lumafield (profile) 📍 San Francisco, CA or Boston, MA
Provides relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations on a case-by-case basis.
Lumafield’s industrial X-Ray CT scanner and AI-powered software can analyze everything from car parts to golf equipment. (Please geek out the way I did and see how they scanned the most popular holiday gifts this year!) After announcing a $35M Series B in September, they plan to hire 30+ folks in the next year. It's a cutting-edge product with no cut and dry answers for how to do it, aka the good stuff! 😏

If you're job searching, I know it might feel a little daunting, but don't worry! While there are many companies hiring on Key Values, there are sooooo many more companies out there. Keep your eyes peeled and look everywhere you can. And if you haven't already, check out the most recent "Who is hiring?" thread on Hacker News, too.
Obligatory "Happy New Year!" (but sincere cheers to wherever you are in your life!),
✌️🎉,
Lynne (@lynnetye and @keyvaluesio)
